EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University freshman William Berry has been named the PSAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after reaching the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the high jump at the Warriors' annual All-American Meet on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Berry (Mangolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) cleared 6-8 3/4, the top mark in the PSAC this season and the conference's only athlete on the NCAA provisional list. He tied the meet record set by Kutztown's Cody Hartzler in 2009.

Berry also ran the 200m dash about five minutes after completing the high jump, running a time of 23.80 seconds to finish 20th of 61 entrants.

During the indoor season, Berry tied for third at the PSAC Championships in the high jump at 6-6 3/4, ran on the Warriors' winning 4x400m relay and the third-place Distance Medley Relay.

He is tied for 17th on the NCAA DII list in the high jump this spring.

Berry's mark was one of 14 meet records either set or tied at the 8th Annual All-American Meet. Other meet records set by ESU athletes came from senior Mike Saparito in the men's 800m (1:51.97), senior Frank Fezza in the men's 3K (8:54.72), senior Matt Tholis in the men's javelin (216-2) and senior Corinne Fitzgerald in the women's 3K (10:12.17). Saparito's time was one of four Eiler-Martin Stadium records set on Saturday.

The Warriors will have a split squad competing this weekend, with 23 athletes slated for competition at the Penn Relays from Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia, and the rest of the team at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday.
