TSTCA Outdoor Championships

West Mifflin

Meet Summary by Phil Grove

Double winners, near doublers and a pair of distance standouts from North Allegheny grabbed attention at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association outdoor championships.

Sophomore Madeleine Davison of North Allegheny battled the wind, cold and occasional flurries to register a PA#1 and school record 10:39.08 in the 3,200-meter run. The old record of 10:46 was held by former state cross country champion Stephanie Madia, who also was an All-American harrier at Notre Dame.

Jillian Hunsberger of Mt. Lebanon was next to finish in a PA#3 11:01.79.

Girls Highlights

In the girls’ throwing events, a pair of PA#1 efforts was recorded in the cold weather. Kailyn Clancy of California Area grabbed the state lead in the shot put with a winning heave of 39 feet, 9 inches, while Deilona DeVaughn of West Mifflin is PA#1 in the discus after her win at 135-3 and Clancy moved to PA#2 with a runner-up toss of 126-6.

And in the javelin, Sarah Stanley of South Park claimed gold with a PA#2 137-7, while Madison Wiltrout of Connellsville was close behind at PA#3 137-2.

On the girls’ side, Ally Bartoszewicz of Vincentian Academy twice beat Jasmine Jones of Hempfield Area and Taylor McCorkle of Oakland Catholic to the line in the sprints. Bartoszewicz ran 12.74 in the 100 final to Jones’ 12.83 and 12.87 for McCorkle after clocking 12.71 in the prelims.

Over a half-lap, Bartoszewicz was first in a PA#3 25.67 to a PA#6 25.91 for Jones and 26.68 for McCorkle.

Other winners were Claire Dougherty of Mt. Lebanon in a PA#8 1:00.84 in the 400 and a 2:23.25 for first in the 800 over Gateway’s Ayanna Crawford and her 2:23.85. Reigning Class A cross country champion Marianne Abdalah of Vincentian was third in 2:25.72.
