Come the fall, Alex Kenney will be suiting up in a helmet and shoulder pads as a graduate transfer for the University of Massachusetts football team.
Before doing so, however, the two-sport junior athlete has some unfinished business to take care of with the Penn State men's track and field team.
Kenney joined the Nittany Lion's track team for his final semester before transferring to UMass, putting his impressive speed to good use. Kenney's athleticism was on full display over the weekend as he ran a 200-meter leg to help lead the Penn State men's sprint medley team to a second-place Championship of American finish at the 2014 Penn Relays.
Kenney and his teammates Bernard Bennett-Green, Byron Robinson and Brannon Kidder finished behind LSU with a time of 3:18.39.
Before arriving at Penn State, Kenney was a 14-time Pennsylvania state track medalist at State College Area High School. In the 2010 state championships, he finished second in the 100 meters (10.63 seconds) and third in the 200 meters (21.42). He holds the Pennsylvania state indoor track record in the 60 meters (6.80), as well as seven State College records.
Kenney finished with 20 career catches for 197 yards in three seasons for the Nittany Lions, and will be expected to contribute immediately in his one season of eligibility with UMass.
