PA Salute To Seniors: Lamar Alleyne - Imhotep Institute Charter HS

What was your most memorable race/competition?
- My most memorable race was when I finally got my opportunity to run at Penn Relays. It was a great experience and we won our heat.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
- I faced my biggest competition running against my former teammates Robert Allen and Donaldo Benjamin from Delaware Valley. It was fun running with them and against them. It also pushed me to become a better athlete to beat them.

Out of all your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
- Finally making it to States. All throughout my high school career I was always on the outside looking in, wanting to know how does it feel to not only make it but to also run at the biggest stage of high school track and now in my Senior year. I can finally say that I've done that.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in High School?
- I would take my individual races more seriously. Throughout high school I was really focused on being on a relay and not focused on bettering my times individually. I feel as though if I would have taken my individual races seriously, I could've been a threat on the track.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
- Not having a place to practice. Everyday during our outdoor season we practiced somewhere different. We went from the hallways, to the park, and sometimes even the side of the road. It was difficult not to have a stable practice facility, but we always made the best of what we had and practiced to the best of our ability.

What will you miss the most?
- I know Im going to miss my coaches, my teammates, practices , just representing IMHOTEP across my chest.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
-Always listen to your coaches, because at the end of the day they know what they're doing.

-If you take something serious and really put your mind to it you can achieve anything.

-Excuses are for people who don't want it bad enough. Stop saying I can’t, I won’t, I might, I'll try, maybe later, tomorrow.... Start saying " I will " today!

How have your coaches influenced your performance and your life goals overall?
-They influenced my performance by always giving me that extra push. They always made sure I finished the workout strong and made sure I never gave up on myself. Even at times when I didn’t believe i could do it or reach a certain time, they did. I think that was important because they always had faith in me.

What are your college plans?
-I’m going to attend East Stroudsburg University and major in Athletic Training.

Shout- Outs?
- Mir, Coach Eric Tyler, Coach Michele, Curtis Davis, Ade, Dii, Smoove, Kenny, Ms. Stamps, Naldo, Rob, Teet, Jay, and most importantly my Mom.
