PTXC Performers of the Week: Week 2

Boys

Athlete: Colin Abert, Easton

The Easton Area senior became the latest household name in PA high school cross country running. Abert stormed through the heat and humidity of Kutztown University to win the PTXC 6 Gold Race in a course record 15:21.37, the fastest time in the state in the early going. The performance was Abert’s best in his career by 22 seconds.

Team: North Allegheny

The District 7 champions and state runners up came back with a bang, as their top two runners, Matt McGoey and Hunter Wharrey, led the Tigers to a repeat title win at the Red White and Blue Invitational. Scott Seel also finished in the top ten and the scoring five finished in the top 50 of the AAA race.

Girls

Athlete: Madeleine Davison

Everyone knew Madeleine Davison was good, but last week, Davison showed how good she really is. The junior went head to head with Red White and Blue course record holder Kelsey Potts of Mount Lebanon, and not only did she beat her by over 30 seconds, but she took her course record for good measure. Davison’s time of 17:32.9 tops the state and could sit there for some time.

Team: Central Cambria

The Red Devils made their season debut at PTXC 6 and got their season off to a hot start. The District 6 champions from Class A placed four inside the top six in the Blue race to cruise to a 50 point victory. The top four for Central Cambria were all 10th graders and they only had one senior compete in the varsity race. Their score of 40 points is the lowest score in PTXC’s brief history by any team in a varsity race.

Congratulations to our winners!
