PTXC Performers of the Week: Week 3

Athletes

Boys

It was a very close call this week, but when a runner makes history, then there’s no denying them of the honor. Jaxson Hoey of Malvern Prep recorded the fastest ever time at Belmont Plateau for a PA runner and the 3rd fastest time in the course’s history with his PA#3 15:30 win in the Briarwood Invite Championship race. It was Hoey’s lifetime best for 5000 meters and it was his 2nd win of the season and his 3rd win in a row dating back to last season.

Girls

Saturday’s Forest Hills Invitational was a big day for Central Cambria’s Sydney Gilkey. The sophomore won her first career invitational and in victory, ran a PA#7 and huge personal best of 18:52! Prior to that race, Gilkey had never broken 20 minutes in eight career invitational races and had three 6th place and one 4th place finish in those races.

Malvern Prep followed the lead of their superstar to record one of their biggest victories in their history. The Friars placed five in the top 19 at the Briarwood Invitational Championship race to score 48 points and win the team title by 31 over Cardinal O’Hara and Central Bucks West. The win makes it two in a row for the Independent School champions.

This week's honor goes to the Lady Lions of Cardinal O'Hara! The District 12 champions were impressive in winning the championship race at Briarwood, defeating the District 1 trio of Great Valley, Central Bucks East, and North Penn with 38 points, four runners under 20 minutes, and a 1-5 spread of a state best 28 seconds! It is O’Hara’s 2nd win of the season!
