Jake Brophy and Brianna Schwartz win PA Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year Awards!

AAA state champions Brianna Schwartz of Shaler Area and Jake Brophy of Central Bucks East were recognized for their incredible 2014 cross country seasons and were rewarded with the Gatorade Runner of the Year award for Pennsylvania!

Despite a late start to the season, Schwartz set course records at Slippery Rock and the District 7 Championships, and she won the AAA state championship with the 2nd fastest time in state meet history on the Hershey Parkview Course. At the end of November, Schwartz won the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships, leading four PA athletes to the Foot Locker Finals. Schwartz would finish 18th in the National Championship race. Her season best of 17:25 was the best time in Pennsylvania for the 2014 season!

Brophy never finished worse than 3rd in any PA race he competed in, missing out on victory just twice. Brophy ran the 2nd fastest time in PA this season with his time of 15:08 to win the SOL Continental League title. He also was victorious at the District 1 AAA championships, and he set a new course record of 15:24 in winning the AAA state championship, breaking the old record by 21 seconds. Brophy finished 5th at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional to earn a trip to Foot Locker Finals as the only junior to qualify out of the Northeast Region. Brophy finished 25th in the final race.
