01/24 TSTCA Indoor Meet #1

Fortunately, the cancellations upon cancellations at the Edinboro University dome last winter did not continue into the 2015 season. The TSTCA meet series got off to a great start this weekend as many Western PA athletes were eager to begin their seasons or continue them with strong performances.

Jordan Geist of Knoch was the show stopper of the day, adding nearly 17 inches to his lifetime best in the shot put, winning with a US#4 throw of 63-2.50!

The West Allegheny power duo of Alexis O'Shea and Lauren Costa continued with their winning ways in the west, as O'Shea won one event and Costa took two. Costa won the girls' 200m in 26.13 after winning the 60m finals in a PA#5 7.79 for a fairly comfortable victory.

West Allegheny senior Alexis O'Shea cruised to the girls' mile win after leading a huge pack through a rather slow 800m in just a little under2:45 before breaking it up and negative-splitting on her way to a 5:20.88.

Later in the day, O'Shea was bested by the Villa Maria duo of junior Claire Brown and senior Grace Trucilla. With a lap to go, Trucilla and Hempfield's Megan Powell were dueling it out with a decent lead, when Brown came out of nowhere and pulled out a powerful finishing kick on the final straightaway to barely edge out her teammate by less than a second.

Sophomore Julia Kooser of Seneca Valley dominated the girls' 3000m by breaking away late and making it her race. Kooser edged Bethel Park's Danielle Hinish to cut into the rankings for a PA#9 10:34.45.

Woodland Hills senior Isaiah Brooks held his spots atop the PA standings in the long and triple jumps this weekend, winning both comfortably at TSTCA with 23-03 for the long jump and 45-03.50 for the triple. Not only can Brooks jump, but he also proved his speed by winning the 60m dash finals in 7.18.

The men's 4x200m was the thrill of the day. Butler and Bethel Park were giving all they had on the last straightaway, but Butler ended up with the most guts and barely edged its competitor with a 1:35.03 to Bethel Park's 1:35.05.

Todd Gunzenhauser of Mount Lebanon did not get enough love from the FAT system to dip under the 9 minute mark in the 3000 meter run. He was victorious in 9:00.01, just missing the group of 10 who have broken 9 minutes this season.
