Week 4 PTXC Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Girls

Track

An epic race took place on Friday night at the Henderson Warrior Invitational that saw established 800 meter star Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends fight off 800 meter newcomer McKenna Keegan of Avon Grove with a national leading time of 2:07.56! Prior to Friday night, Walker had broken the 2:10 mark after the scholastic season in PA had concluded. She has come within a second of her personal best in the middle of April this season. Could 2:05 or better be in the cards? As we wait to find out, she will be recognized as our girls track athlete of the week!

Field

In the heat and sunshine of Shippensburg University, Veronika Karpenko of State College was having the best meet of her career. The junior set career bests in the long jump (18-11.50) and the triple jump (38-11.25), breaking both personal bests by a foot. Both of her marks put her at PA#2 as we approach the Penn Relays. For her double PRs, Karpenko is our girls field athlete of the week!

Boys

Track

On Saturday ,we saw a rarely contested double performed at a high level. Charles Bowman Jr of Central Dauphin East took care of business and won the AAA boys 110 meter hurdles in 14.67 at Shippensburg. Later, he went on and contested the 400 meter dash and won the race with a time of 48.70, good for PA#2. He now has top two marks in two events, and his latest efforts have rewarded him with the boys track athlete of the week.

Field

It took until his last throw of the night, but Jordan Geist of Knoch was the show stopper at another big meet. The sophomore put himself back into the US Top 3 in the shot put with a new lifetime best of 66-1.50 at the Butler Invite. It was his 6th meet in his 7 that he has thrown at least 63 feet. His dominance has earned him another field athlete of the week award.
