Girls AAA Recap: Pennsbury make it 5 titles in 6 years! Olivia Sargent gets long awaited gold medal!

Prior to the race, everyone was anticipating a district 1 rematch between Pennsbury and Unionville for the team title once again. But in the middle of that battle, another district 1 rematch took place between Aislinn Devlin of Downingtown West and Olivia Sargent of Pennsbury.

Devlin wanted to taste her first ever state gold medal and wanted to atone for the missed opportunity at the outdoor state meet last May. Olivia Sargent wanted to win her first individual title and join her sister Sara as a state champion. The two of them were joined by Mady Clahane of Cumberland Valley for nearly two miles of the race before the District 1 duo left her to fend for herself. Devlin and Sargent battled all the way to the last bits of the race, where Sargent turned the tables of Devlin and came away with that long awaited gold medal in 18:01!

Devlin's 2nd place is her best ever cross country state finish. Anna Juul of Unionvile finished in a big 3rd place for her team and recorded her best state meet finish. Clahane fell back to 4th place, and 5th went to arguably one of the breakthrough runners of the season, Allison Willingmyre of Wilson (3).

As for the team title rematch, it was close for the first four runners for each team, with Pensbury only holding a 9 point lead through the first four. But Maddie Sauer finished 40th overall, 16 team places ahead of Unionville's number five to record their 5th state title in the past six years 47-72. Pennsbury recorded a 91 second spread and they had Sargent, Hannah Molloy, and Mary Webb score in single digits and combine for 12 points. District 7 Seneca Valley finished 3rd with 138 points, Perkiomen Valley were 4th with 97, and State College finished an impressive 5th place with 200 points.
