Former Pennsylvania high school cross country and track standouts, Regan Rome and Tessa Barrett earned All-American honors at Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
Rome, who starred at Dallas High School, placed 25th in a time of 20:17 to earn the honor. The William & Mary sophomore was the top PA alum in the women's field.
Barrett, who won a PA state championship and Foot Locker National championship while at Abington Heights, took 36th in the race, competing for Penn State. Her time of 20:26 made her the first Nittany Lion across the line. Barrett is a redshirt freshman.
Regan Rome (pictured above winning the District 2 XC title in 2013) earned All-American honors with a 25th place performance in Kentucky on Saturday.
Other notable finishes on the women's side were Penn State's Tori Gerlach. The former Pennridge runner was 98th overall to close out her collegiate XC career. Villanova's Angel Piccirillo (Homer Center) ran 21:07, good enough for 140th.
One Pennsylvania runner brought home a national title on Saturday. Joe Kush, a North Hills alum, was the seventh man on the national champion Syracuse squad. Kush finished 123rd overall in a 10K time of 31:10.
More finishes at nationals were turned in by former North Allegheny runner and PA state champ Ryan Gil. Gil is a senior at Oregon and finished 121st for the Ducks. Brendan Shearn of the University of Pennsylvania was 165th overall. The junior ran in high school at North Schuylkill.
