Geist, Arizin voted Performers of the Week!

Thanks to another successful week of voting for the PTXC Performers of the Week. This week the honors went to Knoch's Jordan Geist for his record-setting throw at the Tri-State Coaches meet at Edinboro and Cardinal O'Hara's Olivia Arizin for her runaway victory at the Ocean Breeze High School Invitational. We appreciate your voting as always. Check back next week for the next poll!

Boys Performer of the Week: Jordan Geist (Knoch)

It's about time, right? After weeks of having his name on the poll after each of his personal best throws, Jordan Geist was finally voted performer of the week. It's fitting that it comes the week after his throws over 70 and breasking his own state record yet again. Geist skipped the elusive 70 feet mark altogether and went straight for 71, throwing 71-2.5 during his third throw of the afternoon at the TSTCA meet at Edinboro University. He vaulted up from the ninth best throw all-time nationally to No. 5. It was a historic series where Geist throw over 70 feet three times, which is something no PA prep has done indoors even once. Geist did it all in one day. The question on everyone's mind isjust how far can he throw? That remains to be seen, but we'll certainly be watching every step of the way. Geist has a little ways to go to catch Ryan Crouser's 77-foot throw, but let's keep in mind that Geist is only a junior...

Props to this week's runner-up in the voting, Kier Miner of Cumberland Valley. Miner dropped a major PR at Ocean Breeze this past Saturday, taking second place in a 50.05. That's good enough for a PA#5. After that breakthrough performance, what else does Miner have in store for us this indoor season? Check out the full voting results here.

Girls Performer of the Week: Olivia Arizin (Cardinal O'Hara)

Olivia Arizin of Cardinal O'Hara had a big sophomore season. But by the looks of things, Arizin is well on pace for an even better junior season. Arizin took control of the Ocean Breeze High School Invitational 800 meters from the start to take the win in a new indoor PR of 2:15.31. She held off a late charge from Deidre Lewin of Kellenberg to win convincingly. As we move into the stretch run of the season, Arizin seems primed for a big end to her indoor campaign. She sits at PA#3 right now, behind Germantown Friends' Sarah Walker and Friends' Central's Gabrielle Wilkinson. The girls 800, if you didn't already notice, is shaping up to be the most highly anticipated race at states. Next, Arizin will look for a Millrose auto-qualifier, racing the mile at the Armory Track Invitational this weekend. Taylor Givens of State College was a strong second in the voting. Givens posted a huge breakthrough performance at the Susquehanna High School Classic, winning with a PA#1 in the long jump at 18-4.5. Check out the full voting results here.
