The PIAA record for AA is in the hands of a former Olympian and has been since 2001. But this could be the year that Lauryn Williams' 100 meter state meet record goes down, and it could be a freshman that takes the record from her.

Girard College's Thelma Davies is the favorite after running all alone to an 11.82 at the District 1 Championships. Davies set the national freshman record indoors in the 60 meters, and though we haven't seen her race too much this season, the races she has run proves that she's ready for the task.

She'll be contested, though. The Avonworth duo of Hayden and Hunter Robinson ran quick times at the District 7 Championships. Hayden is a freshman and Hunter is a sophomore. Either could give Davies a good run.

Then we have the defending state champ in the event, Nicole Scherer of Burrell. She can't be counted out in what could be a historic race. Neither can Annville-Cleona's Reagan Hess or 2015 runner-up Breana Gambrell of Athens.
