While most of the Jordan
Geist talk this weekend will be centered on his shot put exploits, it may
be easy to forget that he's also the top ranked AAA discus thrower. Geist threw
193-6 to take the win at Baldwin earlier this season. After his shot put throw
on Saturday, Geist will look for more glory in the discus and he's the favorite
to take it.
But North Pocono's Matthew Slagus will provide a good challenge to Geist here. Slagus has thrown over 180 twice this season, including most recently winning the District 2 title. Slagus is hitting form at the right time and he'll be a contender for sure on Saturday afternoon.
Hempfield's Dom Marshall is also in the 180 club, throwing 180-0 in April. Saint Marys Area's Tom Bojalad, Greensburg Salem's Lawson Monta, Greencastle-Antrim's Campbell Parker, and Manheim Township's Ben Viau should be names to keep an eye on as well.
