Harris earns All-American status, hits Olympic Trials Standard


Penn State true freshman Isaiah Harris ran in the fastest ever 800m final in NCAA history on Friday night, and held his own. Harris positioned himself well in the early stages of the race as he got out well in fourth place covering the first 200 in 24.41. The pace continued to be fast as Harris maintained the fourth position as he crossed the finish line at the bell in 50.95. As the hit 200m to go, Isaiah maintained his position in fourth, as he crossed in 1:17.03. Not much would change in the final 200m as he powered down the homestretch to earn his first All-American award, a new personal best & punch his ticket back to Oregon for the Olympic trials in three weeks.

Harris spoke to Flotrack after the race. "I have nothing to complain about, All-American status, PR, and Olympic A Standard, nothing to be ashamed of at all"

Another true freshman Donovan Brazier of Texas A&M won the race in a new NCAA record 1:43.55, breaking Jim Ryun's 50 year old record of 1:44.3. Ryun set the record 50 years ago to the day.
