PA Salute to Seniors - Kate Mowrey, Delone Catholic

Today we salute Delone Catholic's Kate Mowrey. Mowrey just finished up a nice career and will be headed to run at the collegiate level in the fall. Stay tuned throughout the summer as we salute more of the graduating seniors that competed in their careers. What was your most memorable race/competition?
My most memorable race was definitely the cross country state championship meet at Hershey my senior year.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition at the northeast footlocker cross country race. If you ever need a humility refresher, this is the race for you!

Out of all your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Although I am very proud of what I have accomplished personally, my best memories are the accomplishments I have achieved with my team. The one that stands out the most is being 3x cross country team champions. Plus, our coach made us a deal that if we were district champions we got to cut his hair.

If you could do it all over again, what would change about your athletic career in high school?
If I could do it all over again, which I wish I could, I would have savored each special moment more. People aren't kidding when they say high school will be over before you know it!

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Sophomore year I bruised the bone on the top of my foot in gym class and ended up in a cast... The week of track districts. Walking around a huge track meet on crutches is quite the obstacle! Also, my senior year of cross country I sprained my ankle while doing mile repeats through the woods. I couldn't run for about six weeks but I recovered just in time to qualify for districts and then states.

What will you miss the most?
My teammates (aka my family)! In particular I will miss our "YEYE" calls to each other, our long run conversations, and our singing sessions.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
As you saw earlier, my biggest regret was not savoring the special moments of my running journey. Therefore, my advice would be to take no challenge, victory, or obstacle for granted. Each moment is an important piece of your high school running puzzle that will be built before you know it.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
My coaches, including coach R.C, coach Coleman, and coach Ashley, have taught me too many lessons to count. They all had faith in me when I had moments that I didn't have faith in myself. They have inspired me to become a high school cross country coach at some point in my life.

What are your college plans?
I will be attending Lebanon Valley College this fall for a six year physical therapy program. I will also be running cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.

Shout-Outs?
The most important shoutout goes to my mom, dad, and younger brother. They helped me through those mental battles that seemed unconquerable. My next shoutout is to my amazing teammates that make me laugh every minute I'm around them, YEYE!
