USTFCCCA Names Pennsylvania Coaches of the Year

A pair of successful Pennsylvania coaches can add another honor to their big 2016 seasons. State College Area's Steve Shisler (boys) and Cheltenham's Kelly Jensen (girls) were named USTFCCCA Pennsylvania Coaches of the Year.

Shisler coached the State College Area Little Lions to a AAA team title at the PIAA Track and Field State Championships in May at Shippensburg University. We recounted State College's remarkable state meet performance in our Top 20 Moments of the Year countdown. State College ended this past track season with three state champions and PA#1s: the 4x800-meter relay; Alex Milligan (1600 meters); and Griffin Thompson (pole vault). State College edged out indoor state champs Downingtown West by a single point to win the AAA team championship.

Jensen piloted another successful season at the helm of the Cheltenham Panthers. His girls' team won the AAA team championship at outdoor states at Shippensburg. The Cheltenham 4x100-meter relay won the state title in a state record time of 45.78. Sprinter/hurdler Chanel Brissett won the 100-meter hurdles at the state meet and went on to win the event at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. At the Olympic Trials, Brissett tied the long-standing state record and advanced out of the preliminary round, running a time of 12.95.

All recipients will be considered for the National Coach of the Year to be announced later this month. View the state-by-state coaches of the year at MileSplit.
