Boys' 4x200-Meter Relay Preview
Buckle your seat belts for this one because it's going to be fast. Two teams have already run sub-1:30 this season, and two others have run right around 1:31 on flat-tracks. The fastest section of this 4x200 is going to be crazy.
Imhotep is the state leader. They ran 1:27.55 in January at the New Balance Games. They have hit that time since then, despite a couple tries, but they may be in store for a big performance on Saturday. They certainly have the speed, with a quartet led by Kristian Marche and Ade Jones-Roundtree.
Coatesville sits at PA#2. They are led by Terrance Laird, but have a strong sprint team outside of the 200 meter PA#1. Laird has typically led off this relay and will look to put them in good position.
Bishop Shanahan will be a tough team to beat. After the transfer of Nate and Ian Alleyne from Downingtown West over the summer, Shanahan has become a serious power in the sprints. With the Alleynes and Keegan Hughes, they will be in the mix.
Glen Mills dropped a 1:31.15 at the Last Chance Meet to take second to Shanahan. Led by Keon Rantin, Glen Mills has plenty of quick sprinters that will make it interesting with the aforementioned three teams. The Bulls were third a year ago in this race.
Downingtown East is another team to watch. They ran 1:30.81 to place second at Ocean Breeze a few months ago. Pennridge, North Penn, Wilson (3), The Haverford School for Boys, and Central Bucks West make up the rest of the teams that have run sub 1:33 this season.
While the fast heat will be, well, heated, don't count out some of the teams in the slower sections that could sneak into the medals and surprise some folks on Saturday.
