Boys' Sprints/Hurdles Recap

Terrance Laird didn't get that state record he so desperately coveted, but the Coatesville can call himself a state champion for the first time in his career. Laird dominated the 200 meter field, blasting a time of 21.42 for the win. North Allegheny's Ayden Owens was second in 21.73.

Meadville Area's Journey Brown tied a 2010 state meet record in the 60 meters, beating a talented field. The finals did not include reigning champ Ade Jones-Roundtree of Imhotep or Isaac Elliott of Ambridge (the PA#1 entering the meet) after both pulled up with injuries in earlier heats. Brown ran a time of 6.80 for the win. Downingtown East's Jeremy Jennings placed second in 6.84 (though he ran 6.81 in the semis).

Bishop Shanahan's Nate Alleyne pulled off the win in a thrilling 400 meters over St. Joseph's Prep's Miles Green. Alleyne led from the break and Green stayed right on his shoulder. In the final stretch, the pair went side-by-side. Alleyne barely nipped him at the line, winning in 48.21. Green clocked in at 48.24. Ryan Thrush took third and Council Rock North's Mike Welde was fourth from the fourth heat.

In the 60 meter hurdles, we finally got to see the highly anticipated matchup between Germantown Academy's Kyle Garland and NA's Owens. Garland proved his strength in the event, running the only three sub-8 second heats, en route to the win. Garland ran 7.89 in the semis and then too the win in 7.91 in the finals. Owens took second in the hurdles and Penn Manor's Taraje Whitfield took third.
