Washington-Green County Championships - Meet Preview

GIRLS' PREVIEW

In the sprints and jumps there are many talented ladies to look for this weekend. Tamara Mathis of Canon-McMillan is the number one seed going into the weekend in both the 100m and 400m dash.  Her teammate, Chyna Beck, is looking for a win in the 100m hurdles and triple jump.  However both girls will see competition from standout Brenna Cavanaugh of Bentworth. 

Cavanaugh will be a factor in the sprints, but she should not be missed in the long jump.  She won 2017 indoor states with a jump of 19 ft. 7.25 inches. We will look for her to post another great performance this weekend and see how it compares with some of the state's best. 

In the girls 800m and 1600m, look for Laura Ehrenberger of Peters Township who is the top seed in both events. Ehrenberger has made it to states in AA in both events in the past and we should see some fast times from her this weekend. She is also entered in the 3200m, we will see if she runs all three events.

In the shot, look for Caroline Fyock of Peters Township and Omyrah Davis of Washington.

There are some different events happening at the Washington-Greene County Championships on Saturday. There will be a Freshman and Sophomore 1 mile run to highlight the talents of some younger athletes. The top seed in the boy's mile is Josiah Wudkwych of Canon-McMillian. Paige Mattes of Peters Township is the top seed for the girl's Fresh/Soph. 1 mile race. There will also be a co-ed Sprint Medley Relay which should be fun to watch.

BOYS' PREVIEW

In the sprints and jumps look for Ringgold's senior Brian VanDusen. VanDusen took seventh in the long jump at indoor states this past winter. His fellow teammate Octavius Vasser will not be too far behind him in long jump. VanDusen will also be running the 100m and 200m. However in the 100m, Casimiar Johnson of Washington is the top seed going into the meet.

In the distance events, look for Waynesburg Central's Ben Bumgarner who is the top seed in both the 1600m and 3200m. In the 3200m, he will face some competition from Damon Gall of Canon-McMillan.

In the throws, look for a big performance from Doug Halo, the number one seed in the shot.
