Millersville Cy Fritz Open - MEET RECAP

GIRLS' RECAP

Starting off the evening, Maddie McLain of Eastern York won the 2k steeple in a time of 7:36.94. Even though this is not an event at the state meet, McLain's time now ranks 2nd in the state.

McLain came back later in the night to run the 3200m taking second to Kate Dickow of Warwick. Dickow ran 11:04:54 , but McLain was not far behind running 11:06.42. Dickow's time ranks 11th in the state right now in the 3200m. The pair were followed closely by Hershey's Taylor Mortensen in 11:08.71

The mid-distance races were competitive at Millersville this past weekend. Alice Fernald of Donegal ran 57.99 to win the 400m dash. Lenaiya Flowers wasn't far behind in the 400m running 58.10.

Solanco freshman Alana Yoder ran 2:15.68 for the win in the 800m. Yoder's time now ranks her 7th in the state in the 800m. Hannah Jones of Hershey followed Yoder with a 2:17.41 for second. Both girls will be on our radar as we head into the District III championships in this event.

Also on the track, Leah Graybill of Warwick ran 25.20 to win the 200m dash. Her time is now ranked 4th in the state.

In the jumps, Hannah Baddick of Gettysburg had a great performance with a jump of 37 ft. 2 inches. Gabriella Recce of Central Dauphin also jumped 36 ft. 6 inches. Reece won the long jump in 17 feet , 1 in.

The high jump was won by Taye Dairo of Central Dauphin who jumped 5 ft. 6 in. for the win. This jump ties with many of the top jumpers in the state. Second place in the high jump was Trinity Bitting-Ellis of Warwick jumping 5 ft. 4 in.

Jane Livingston continued her success in the hurdles by winning both the 100m and 300m hurdles this weekend. The Conestoga Valley sophomore ran 14.65 in the 100m hurdles; very close to a personal best. She ran 44.16 in the 300m hurdles, which now ranks her #5 in the state.  

In the throws, there was a close battle for first in the shot. Aliyah Striver of J.P McCaskey won with a throw of 38 ft. 8.75 in. over Anna Cooney of Solanco throwing 38 ft. 4 in.

The javelin was won by Brianna Wanbaugh throwing 122 ft. even.

In the relays, Manheim Township girls ran 9:36.88 to win the 4x800m relay. In the  4x400m, Warwick broke 4 minutes running 3:59.12.

BOYS' RECAP

Eric Garner of Warwick had a big throw this weekend of  195 ft. 8 in. for the win. Garner did throw over 200 ft last summer, so we will see he can go over 200 ft. as this season continues.  Penn Manor's Alexander Scheivert also performed well with a throw of 185 ft. 4 in. which now ranks 10th in state.

The 800m run was also competitive resulting in some fast times for competitors. The race was won by Nathan Lopez of Eastern York in 1:55.30. Lopez is now tied for the 11th fastest time in the state in this event. Cole Sunderland of Manheim Central ran 1:56.96 for second, followed by Drayk Cassamajor of Warwick in 1:57.49.

Sunderland won the 1600m earlier in the meet with a time of 4:36.95.

Muhlenberg's Najee Smith had a successful meet. The senior ran a personal best of 10.83 in the 100m which now ranks 5th in the state.  He came back in the 200m to win with a time of 22.21 (PA #11). Also in the sprints, Bishop McDevitt's JuQuill Adams broke 11, running 10.98 in the 100m.

The 2k steeple was won by Josh Adams of Central Dauphin in 6:38:20, just a second in front of Hempfield's Daniel Forry.  Adams and Forry have run the 3rd and 4th fastest times in the state in this event.

Another close race between first and second was the 3200m, where Nathaniel Kaplon of Central Dauphin and Doug Kramer of Penn Manor both pushed each other to run fast times. Kaplon won with a time of 9:37.17, followed closely by Kramer running 9:38.31.

Familiar local rivals, Taraje Whitfield of Penn Manor and Aanyah Bermudez of Conestoga Valley, raced against each other in the high hurdles at Millersville. Whitfield won with a time of 14.32 and Bermudez came in second in 14.46. Bermudez also won the 300 meter hurdles in 38.90, but the hurdles were set too low for that--the fastest section.

Conestoga Valley's Jose Barbon tied his season best in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet. 1 inch.
