Lower Merion Invitational - MEET PREVIEW

BOYS' PREVIEW

The high jump should be competitive this weekend at Lower Merion​. There are several guys entered at 6 ft. 4 inches. Look for Julian Klenner of Westtown, James Burton of Lower Merion and Valiant McKee of Coatesville.

In the 110m and 300m hurdles, look for Jared Elters of Coatesville to be pushing the pace up front.

Naheem Moore of Coatesville and Romaine Rhoden of Lower Merion will be competitive in the long jump this weekend having both jumped close to 22 ft. Moore is the top seed in the triple jump, but will be challenged by Motivation High School's Nafese Mack.

In the sprints, the top seed for the 100m and 200m dash are two familiar names from Coatesville. Eric Kirk is the top see in the 200m​,​ having run 22.06 this season. We will see if he is ready to break 22 seconds this weekend to climb the state rankings. Terrance Laird should not be missed in the 100m this weekend. He holds PA #1 times both events;​ we will see what is in store this weekend. Look for Austin Montgomery of Norristown to make an impact in both ​short sprints ​as well.

In the 400m, look for Rashaun Cooke from Lower Merion to break 50 seconds.

Also on the track, look for Jason Cornelison to break 10 minutes in the 3200m. Coatesville's Colin Mihalak is the top seed in the 1600m, but should have a challenge from Doug Luba of Plymouth Whitemarsh.

In the throws this weekend, look for a top performance from Coatesville's Aaron Young in the javelin.

Coatesville's boys 4x100m relay still holds the fastest time in the state, so they will be one to watch on Saturday. Norristown's 4x400m relay will look to pop a fast time as well.

GIRLS' PREVIEW

Look for an epic battle between Jonae Cook of Norristown and Aja Davis of Lower Merion. Cook (PA #5) and Davis (PA #8) have personal bests that are separated by .01 seconds​. The two will most likely push each other to fast times this weekend, we will see who comes out on top.

Cook will return to race the 200m with her teammate Siani Sanders. Both girls will face competition from the number one seed Ni'Asia Williams of Girls' High. Cook holds the #10 fastest time in the state in the 200m.

Norristown's Sheila Day should win the 100m hurdles as the top seed going into the weekend. However, she will face some tough competition in the 300m hurdles from Taylor O'Brien of Plymouth Whitemarsh. O'Brien is PA #2 in this event with her season best time of 43.58. O'Brien is also the top seed in the high jump having jumped 5 ft. 6 in. this season. She is one of the top seeds in the state in ​this event as well.​

Another fast race will be the 400m dash. Porsha Miles of Coatesville is the top seed and has broken​ 58 seconds this season. Other girls to watch in the fast heat are Sanders and O'Brien.

Sammie Miller and Makayla Eberly of Coatesville will push each other to run some fast times in the 800m. The top seed in the 1600 is Tasha Greene of Harriton.

Taliyah Furtick of Simon Gratz is the top seed in the long jump. She will be challenged by Caroline Billone of Coatesville and Ni'Asia Williams.

In the triple jump, look for Billone to take the top spot. She is ranked PA #10 with her jump of 37 ft. 4 inches; we will see how far she jumps this weekend. Look for Alliya Funke of Central to post a top performance as well.

Lower Merion's 4x800m relay team will look for a fast time and first place this weekend.
