AAA Boys' 200m Preview
After a freak false start in the prelims of the 100 meters on Friday of the District 1 Championships, Coatesville's Terrance Laird looked like a man on a mission on Saturday. First anchoring his 4x100 to a convincing win, Laird came back to put on a stunning performance in the 200 meters---a 20.83 for the win.
The indoor state champion looks as unbeatable as ever and the PA#1 will look to add a an outdoor state crown after taking second to Josh McLemore last season in a near indistinguishable photo finish. The field will be chasing Laird this weekend.
A number of boys will be gunning for the upset. Truman's Sayyid Saunders and Glen Mills' Keon Rantin went 2-3 at District 1 and should be strong again this weekend. Rantin was third last year, while Saunders was seventh. Imhotep's Ade Jones-Roundtree looked strong at District 12, winning into a headwind in 21.57. The senior should be a factor. Another impressive district victor was Nazareth's Julian Liaci, who keeps getting strongers as the season goes on.
Other returning state finalists from last year include Central Dauphin East's Aaron Arp (fifth in '16) and Bishop Shanahan's Nate Alleyne (sixth in '16). Both will be in the mix again this season. Harrisburg's Ronald Kent edged out Arp for the District 3 title. He's coming on strong at the right time. CB West's Joe Manetta and Bonner & Prendie's Ethan Cook are among the others to watch for.
