AAA Girls' Shot Put Preview
We saw a great moment last year as Cocalico's Emily Stauffer finally won her elusive outdoor state title in the AAA shot put. Fast forward to this weekend, and we'll get a new champ is a fairly open competition in the event.
Berwick's Payden Montana is the favorite coming into the weekend. She was third last season, but she's improved a good deal in this, her junior season. Montana tossed a big PR of 45-1.5 to take third at the Penn Relays and then won the District 2 title with a throw of 44-9.
A pair of girls from the WPIAL are coming off strong district meets and will look to challenge Montana. Hempfield Area's Samantha Orie threw 43-6 to edge out Penn Hills' Lillia Allen for the District 7 crown. For Orie, it was a nice PR that puts her as the #2 seed entering the weekend. It was also a big PR for Allen, who now has a ton of momentum heading into states.
Avon Grove's Chloee Kleespies, who transferred from Bishop Shanahan before this year, has improved a lot as well as is a serious contender this weekend. State College's Jordan Bair will look to convert an indoor state medal into an outdoor one at Ship. Among the returning medalists from last season are Greencastle Antrim's Jenay Faulkner and Gateway's Kristen Greggerson. Butler's Jena Reinheimer, Baldwin's Jasmine Wicks, JP McCaskey's Aliyah Striver, and Liberty's Jochebed Arthur will be gunning for the podium in a deep and open AAA girls' shot put.
