Team Breakdown: PIAA District 2 Boys

D2-AAA Boys - Team Breakdown

Abington Heights out five in the top 12 at districts last year, propelling the squad to the District 2 Class AAA title. Kyle Burke won the indiviual crown and Dan Uhranowsky was third, leading the way for AH, which was third in 2016.

Both Burke and Uhranowsky are back this season and would like to close out their senior seasons with another trip to Hershey. Also returning are juniors Ethan Mattox and Ryan Siebecker and Abington Heights is in the driver's seat for a repeat district title and return trip to Hershey. AH was 19th at states last year, and with a good group of returners, look for them to improve mightily on that finish from last fall.

Hazleton Area returns all but one from its varsity team from last year. Led by Franklin Cunningham, Hazleton should be a strong team this fall. If it can lower the gap to Cunningham, don't count this team out of the state qualifying conversation.

Wallenpaupack was third last season also loses just one from its 2016 team. Thomas Johnson had a strong year for the team last year to lead the way and he'll need to be just as solid again this season. If Wallenpaupack can add Tyler Wirth, a 4:17 1600 meter runner from this spring, to the roster, it could be a game-changer. Wirth, a rising junior, has not competing in XC in his career, however.

Delaware Valley and Williamsport Area are two teams that will try and bridge the gap this season to those top teams.
