Team Breakdown: PIAA District 1 Girls

D1-AA Girls - Team Breakdown

Despite an up-and-down season last fall, Villa Joseph Marie put it all together on the right day and put together a dominating performance at the District 1 Championships in Class AA. Led by Katie Irelan, who won her second straight district crown, VJM scored just 31 points for the win.

Irelan is back, along with fellow rising juniors Abby Zwall and Brianna Kling, who took third and fourth at districts. Sophomores Lily Dineen and Camila Drobac will make for a strong top five. All signs point to a repeat win and another berth in the state meet at Hershey.

Nazareth Academy will look to challenge VJM for that one states spot. Nazareth brings back its top three which includes 2016 state qualifiers Anna Featherstone and Ciara Dubeck. Nazareth did beat VJM last season for the AACA title, so it's no stranger to upsets. It loses some seniors to graduation, but don't count out Nazareth this fall.

Villa Maria and New Hope-Solebury are among the teams that will look to get in the mix come October.
