Big Valley Invitational - Recap

Jersey Shore's Isaac Davis had a bit of deja vu at Big Valley. The senior went 15:54 for the second straight year at the annual invite, also winning for the second consecutive season. Davis, who enters the season at PA#10, took the win by 25 seconds over second place Garrett Baublitz, a Juniata sophomore.

The story of the meet, however, was Penns Valley. The 1A school dominated the field, led by a freshman nonetheless. Brendan Colwell, the brother of reigning D6-A champ Chris Colwell, took fourth in a time of 16:38. Chris Colwell then came across in sixth, while another freshman---Colton Sands---was seventh, to lead PV to the win with just 44 points.

Mifflin County, which was paced by ninth grader Brayden Harris (third in 16:21), was second in the team race with 85 points. State College, minus some top runners, took third.

The State College girls had a great start to their 2017 campaign. The team, which opened the season at PA#5, took four of the top five spots in the girls' race, scoring just 20 points for the win.

Senior Cailin Saylor led the way, winning in a time of 19:47. Emma Simon was second in 19:53 and freshman Jordan Reed made a nice debut, finishing third in 19:58. Kileigh Kane took fifth overall in 20:16 and Gabbi Bock was tenth in 20:44, rounding out a strong top five for the Little Lions.

Lewisburg Area freshman Delaney Humphrey was the lone runner to break up the State College top four, taking fourth in 20:08. Lewisburg was second in the team race with 89 points.
