Plenty Of League/County Action: Tuesday Conference Recaps

Berks County Championships - Meet Recap

There were a few fireworks in what figured to be a close team race for the Berks County title.

Twin Valley led around the midway point by three points. But Wyomissing made a late push on TV. Then coming into the finish, Wyo's usual top runner Joe Cullen limped to the finish line with an apparent leg injury. Still, he managed to cross in 12th to help solidify the win for his team.

Ben Kuhn and Matthew Driben provided low sticks, taking fourth and fifth respectively for Wyo. Dylan Servis led the way for Twin Valley, placing second in 16:36.

Individually, Wilson's Jake Underwood broke away around the midway point of the race from Governor Mifflin's Alexander Ermold, and brought it home for the win in 16:21, as Neil Young's "Southern Man" blared over the speakers on Kutztown's "Farm Course." Servis outkicked Ermold to take second.

The Governor Mifflin girls asserted their dominance this season over the county. The GM girls scored 43 points, 38 points ahead of second place Daniel Boone, to runaway with the team title. Andrea Miller and Jessie Taylor went 2-3 to lead the way for the PA#9 squad, which is on the hunt for one of the district's state qualifying spots next week.

Oley Valley's Rebecca Snyder was second last year, but she was #1 in the county this year. Snyder left little doubt about it, breaking away from Miller in the opening mile and solo-ing a 19:01 for the victory. Now Snyder moves on the districts to face D3-AA talents Marlee Starliper and Taryn Parks.
