Girls' 4x800-Meter Relay Preview
Coming in as one of the last seeds to the Millrose Games, the Strath Haven girls surprised the crowd at the Armory and dropped a very quick 9:11.19 to capture the 4x800-meter relay at the historic meet. That performance jetted Haven to PA#1 and US#2, spots where it still stands heading into states. Strath Haven is going all-in with relays, looking to sweep the distance relays. The 4x8 comes first and Haven will be the heavy favorites with a strong anchor leg in Grace Forbes, who clocked a 2:12 split for that winning Millrose squad.
Three other squads have dipped under 9:30 this season. Neumann Goretti has a deep lineup to choose from. The Saints went 9:22.71 to take second to Strath Haven at the Meet of Champs. Look for Neumann Goretti to put itself in the mix for a high finish and big team points early on Sunday. The Baldwin School also has a strong group of half milers, many returning from last year's third place squad. Baldwin took third at MOCs in 9:29.56 (PA#3) and will be up there as well. State College Area went 9:29.95 at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory. The Little Lions were eighth a year ago, but expect them to improve upon that this time around.
After that, seven squads are separated by just over ten seconds. Penn Charter, Central Bucks West, Penn Wood, North Penn, Owen J. Roberts, Butler and Kennett are in that deep group of teams that will fight it out for the medals. North Penn was the champion each of the last two years. Squads like Council Rock South, South Fayette, and Central Bucks East will also have their eyes on the medal stand if they can put down a fast time from the first of two heats.
