Who To Watch For In Each District Meet

PIAA District 1 Championships

Who To Watch For: Thelma Davies (Girard College)

Why? Davies is the most electric sprinter the state of Pennsylvania has ever seen at the high school level. She broke the 100 meter state record last year as a sophomore (11.43) and has rolled to back-to-back state titles in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. She took second at New Balance Nationals Indoor this winter in the 60 meters

What to expect: The junior sensation has raced sparingly this spring, likely as an effort to stay fresh for a long post-states run with New Balance Nationals and USATF Juniors. Still, this is the time of the year we typically see Davies start to turn it on. She ran 11.63 and 11.65 at a bizarre District 1 meet last year, so we could see her run even faster this time around.

Others to watch: Allyson Clarke (AAA - Distance); Jonae Cook (AAA - Sptrints); Alexis Crosby (AAA - Sprints); Kate Donnelly (AAA - High Jump); Arianna Eberly (AAA - Hurdles); Grace Forbes (AAA - Mid-Distance); Tara Higgins (AAA - Javelin); Gianna Hollister (AAA - High Jump); Brooke Hutton (AAA - Distance); Natalie Kwortnik (AAA - Sprints & Jumps); Madison Langley-Walker (Hurdles & Jumps); Grace Lanouette (AAA - Sprints); Porsha Miles (AAA - Sprints); Elicia Moore (AAA - Sprints); Taylor O'Brien (AAA - Hurdles/High Jump); Keara Seasholtz (AAA - Mid-Distance); Brianna Smith (AAA - Jumps/Hurdles); Rorie Spencer (AAA - Sprints); Tia Taylor (AA - Hurdles & Jumps); Christina Warren (AAA - Hurdles & Jumps); Ni Asia Williams (AAA - Cheltenham)

Who To Watch For: Charles Dever (West Chester Rustin)

Why? He took down the long-standing state record in the pole vault, clearing 17 feet even in a dual meet earlier this season. He also cleared 16-00.75 at the Penn Relays and 16-05.25 at indoor nationals. Dever is also the District 1 leader in the long jump, after a big leap of 23-03.5 at another dual meet

What to expect: Dever has the best vault in D1 by two feet, so he'll be the heavy favorite this weekend. Despite setting the state record, a state title is still no given for Dever. He'll face good competition at the state meet from indoor state and Penn Relays champion Payton Morris of East Pennsboro, who has cleared 16-06. But before that, Dever will aim for his first District 1 title.

Others to watch: Dayo Abeeb (AAA - Jumps); Michael Cannon Jr. (AAA - Sprints); Jake Claricurzio (AAA - Mid-Distance); Liam Conway (AAA - Mid-Distance); Anderson Dimon (AAA - Sprints); Matt Eissler (AAA - Mid-Distance); Jared Elters (AAA - Hurdes); Tony Graham (AAA - Hurdles); Savion Hebron (AAA - Sprints); Jonah Hoey (AAA - Mid-Distance); James Jackson (AAA - Hurdles); Eric Kirk (AAA - Sprints); Austin Kratz (AA - Sprints); Rusty Kujdych (AAA - Distance); Joshua Lewin (AAA - Distance); Alex Martin (AA - Throws); Yobani Moreno (AAA - Throws); Cole Peterlin (AAA - High Jump); Romaine Rhoden (AAA - Sprints/Jumps); Aidan Sauer (AAA - Mid-Distance); Sayyid Saunders (AAA - Sprints); Randy Showmaker (AAA - Pole Vault); Nick Smith (AA - Hurdles); Spencer Smucker (AAA - Distance); Aaron Young (AAA - Javelin); Rick Zink (AAA - Sprints)
