AA Boys' Pole Vault Preview
Schuylkill Valley's Joe Jardine will be aiming to return to the top of AA in the pole vault this weekend. He won it as a sophomore, but placed second to Ryan Atcavage last season. Atcavage has graduated and Jardine is a much-improved vaulter. He was third at indoor states, has an all-conditions PR of 16-00 and an outdoor season best of 15-07. The District 3 champ seems primed to win his second state title in three years.
But Waynesburg Central's Will Behm will look to challenge him. The senior was ninth a year ago, but has made some great strides. He jumped 15-00 at Baldwin and won the WPIAL title last week with a 14-10. Behm can't be counted out in this field. Behm's teammate Daniel Layton cleared 13-06 to take second at WPIALs and has a PR of 13-09.
Catasauqua's Jacob Wittman and Reynolds' Matt Gosser have both jumped 14-00 this season. Wittman won the District 11 title and will look for a high finish in his first state meet. Gosser is also in his first state meet after taking second at District 10.
Richland's Bryan Abel, Fairview's Michael Jarecki, Ligonier Valley's Mack Ankney, Bloomsburg's Travis Keyser, and Schuylkill Valley's Brian Porter are among the other medal contenders with season bests in the mid-13s.
