PIAA XC States Qualifying Breakdown

How can teams and individuals qualify for the PIAA Cross Country State Championships this fall? The PIAA has set the qualifying procedure for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years.

Every two years, the PIAA amends the classifications to account for enrollment numbers in schools and adjusts the schools according. There were a many changes in A, AA, and AAA and in some cases, the amount of team and individual qualifiers for the PIAA State Championship meet were changed for the districts.

Here are some notable changes to the new qualifying standards for this cycle.

  • In AA for both boys and girls, District 5 is combining with District 6, so the D5-AA teams will compete at the D6 Championships for the lone team and 5 individual state spots.
  • In AAA, District 1 gets one more team qualifying spot and 5 more individual qualifying spots (6 total team spots and 30 total individual spots).
  • D1-AAA gets the extra spots because District 10-AAA has combined with District 8-AAA. D10 will compete for the one team and 5 individual spots at the D8 Championships.
