Team Breakdown: PIAA District 11 Girls

D11-AA Girls - Team Breakdown

Despite having two teams in the top six of the state in 2017, District 11's AA classification will only get one single state spot for teams this fall as opposed to the two it got last season.

Last year, Allentown Central Catholic rolled to the D11-AA title and then a week later posted an impressive second place finish at the state meet. That Vikings squad was led by Emily Deschler and Alyssa Deschler, who both earned state medals, but those two, along with two others from the varsity team have graduated. Sydney Harris, eighth in D11-AA last year, will be called upon to lead the defending state runners-up, who will look for a return trip to Hershey.

Northwestern Lehigh was second to ACC at districts last year and then took sixth at the state meet. It loses two girls from last year's varsity team. Kailyn Jones and Madeline Consuelos lead this deep squad that could certainly take that all-important top spot in D11-AA this season.

Bethlehem Catholic was sixth at districts a year ago, but returns its entire top seven. Rising senior Lauren Bunke will hope to lead Becahi to the top spot. Mary Frances Scheidel, who didn't run at districts last year, could be an X-factor for this team. Tamaqua Area, third in the district last season, will be motivated this season. Frances Kabana was the team's top runner last year as just a freshman. Tamaqua is young, but should be in the mix.

Palisades (fourth in 2017), Lehighton, and North Schuylkill will look to add some depth and contend for a strong finish in what appears to be a very wide open classification this fall.
