D7-A Boys - Individuals Breakdown

  • Class A Individuals Rankings
  • State Qualifying Spots For Non-Team Individuals: 20
  • 2017 Champion: Tristian Forsythe (Winchester Thurston) - 16:21

Reigning WPIAL Class A and overall Class A state champion Tristan Forsythe has graduated and we'll get a new individual champ this season in D7-A. A quartet of boys that finished eight seconds within each other placed inside the top ten of the WPIAL Championships last year are back this season and among the favorites.

Freedom Area's Adam Hessler was fifth at WPIALs and then placed 13th at the state meet a week later. He'll be one to watch during his senior season after a solid spring. He has a lot of momentum coming into the fall. Forsythe's Winchester Thurston teammate from last year, Scott Routledge finished just behind Hessler at WPIALs last fall and was 61st at states. With team implications on the line, Routledge will be called on to be one of the top Thurston runners this season.

Serra Catholic's Lukas Dunaway (seventh) and Trinity Christian's Zachary Gould (eighth) are also back from the top ten in D7-A. Dunaway took 32nd at states, while Gould grabbed a 25th place medal at the state meet. Both should move up this season and challenge for the district title.

Winchester Thurston's Sean Heintzleman and Patrick Malone, Brentwood's Aiden Barker, and Neshannock's Ian Jackson are among the other top contenders this fall in Class A from the WPIAL.
