And They're Off! Week 1 Recap

Northampton Invitational (Bicentennial Park - Northampton, PA)

Amy Conboy made a strong return to XC. The Stroudsburg senior, who was a AAA state medalist as a sophomore, was injured for a good portion of her junior season. But on Saturday, she looked fit, winning in 19:21. Conboy pulled away in the last mile and held on for the win.

Council Rock South's Marisa Kilgarriff ran well to take second in 19:23, just ahead of third place Mckenna Brophy of Central Bucks East, who finished in 19:24. Central Bucks East was the top team, winning in the combined team scores with 83 points. Upper Dublin was second, while Emmaus took third.

In the boys' race, Christian McComb of Boyertown made his case for the top 25 state rankings. The junior made moves in the final mile to take the win in 16:00, just off his pre-race goal of sub-16. McComb was 28th at states a year ago.

Easton's Joseph Ozgar was second, running a time of 16:10, and his teammate Cosmo Cardone was fourth in 16:22. In between them was Central Bucks East's David Endres, who came across third in 16:16. Southern Lehigh freshman Alex Kane made a big first impression, placing fifth in 16:27.

Central Bucks East edged out Easton Area in the combined team standings, scoring 93 points to Easton's 94.
