Team:

Two time defending state champion Central Cambria surprised many last year by regaining the title in close fashion in their first year without two-time Foot Locker all-American Carly Seymour. With five of their top seven returning, including two Seymour sisters - one of whom is 1600m state champion Kelsey Seymour (5:01.89), they will be a tough challenge for anyone trying to prevent them from the 3-peat.

Top contenders to dethrone the champions include Lewisburg (3rd in 2008), who lose their top two, but return 3-7 and the team had a solid track season in 2009. Saucon Valley (5th in 2009) return five of their top seven, including top runner Lainie Smith. Other contenders have four returning runners, but will need a good performance out of their 5th runner to be serious contenders. The squads that fit this criterion include state runner-up West Middlesex, 4th place finisher Union City with all state runner Rebecca Reichbaum; and 7th place finisher Northwestern Lehigh with 4th place finisher Lindsay Kerr.

Individuals:

Many familiar faces return in 2009, as only nine of the top twenty-five finishers last season were seniors. Runner-up Leah Anne Wirfel (left) of Forest Hills is the top returner and has run 5:06/11:02 1600/3200 double during track. Kayleigh Perry (right) is the 2nd returner (3rd overall in 2008) from last year, but comes back with the strongest track resume, running 4:54.13/10:59.76 1600/3200 double. Lindsay Kerr (below) of Northwestern Lehigh is the 3rd returner (4th overall in 2008) with a 2:18/5:06 800/1600 double from last season. Morgan Richards of Hickory is the 4th returner (6th overall in 2008) with a 5:13 1600 from track season. Other contenders for top ten positions include Danielle Kocjancic of Kane, 4th returner and 5:06 1600 in 2009, Katie Perkins of District X North East, 5th returner, Katie Sick of Millville, 6th returner, Lainie Smith of Saucon Valley, 7th returner, Hannah Miller of Laurel Valley, 8th returner, Kady Schrann of York Catholic, 9th returner, and Kelsey Seymour of Central Cambria, 10th returner and 2:14/5:01 800/1600 double in 2009.
