Three Event Victories Power Men's Track and Field

Complete Results

BEREA, Ohio –
Allegheny men's track and field authored three individual event victories en route to a fourth-place finish at the 2011 Baldwin-Wallace Invitational.
The mid-distance and distance crews supplied most of the power, although Taylor Throckmorton delivered a second-place finish in the 400-meter run with a decent early-season clip of 51.36.
Led by senior All-American Tony Dipre, the cross country crossovers emphatically signaled their dominance in the 3000m. The Gators grabbed an astounding eight of the top-10 places with Dipre breaking the tape in 8:41.20. Fellow All-American Jeramie Parker split 8:49.94 to take second overall while junior Pat McLaughlin completed the circuit in 9:05.16 en route to fourth.
“It was a pretty good day for the men all together,” offered head coach Brent Wilkerson. “We were able to get some conference qualifiers out of the way while producing a few surprises. This meet was about identifying our fitness and competiveness levels, and by the look of the results, most of the guys were doing what they needed to do over break.”
The Gators also looked sharp in the mile as Mike Vlah and Andrew Mahone coasted to a 1-2 finish. Vlah was especially impressive after crossing the line in 4:22.79. Making his season debut, Greg Eyer opened the campaign with a great result as he cruised to a two-second victory in the 1000m (2;47.5).
Although thin on numbers, Allegheny track and field will make significant progress in several areas as the season progresses while relying on its deep and dominant distance unit to lead the way. Allegheny finished 64 points ahead of fifth-place Geneva and 18 points back of John Carroll. Baldwin-Wallace won the meet with a score of 208.
