West Middlesex came away with both team championships in comfortable fashion. The girls scored 75 points to take the team title by close to fifty points. West Middlesex placed four in the top fifteen led by an 8th place finish by Chloe Tyillian (21:29). Hickory's Morgan Richards won the individual gold medal with a time of 19:19 to win by 17 seconds. For the boys, West Middlesex scored five in the top twenty led by a 4th place finish from Trey Powell to score 69 points to win by over 60 points. Corry's Austin Pondel had a dominating performance, winning the gold in 16:36, one minute better than the field.

Cumberland County Championships

Shippensburg
Vinny Todaro of Big Spring ran 17:08 to narrowly hold off Jordan Crawford of Cedar Cliff by 8 seconds to win the county championship. Red Lion's boys had a strong meet, placing six in the top fifteen led by a 3rd place finish from John Felts to score 36 points and nearly double up 2nd place Cedar Cliff. For the girls, Red Land's Makena Felts ran 21:01 to win the county title by 12 seconds over 2nd place Kathryn Reszkowski of Mechanicsburg. The team race was very close, as three teams were separated by two points. Red Land and Big Spring tied for 2nd with 66 points, but Cedar Cliff placed five in the top 18 and were the only team with two in the top ten to score 64 points and narrowly take the title.

Frank Keyser Invitational

Boonsboro High School
Three freshmen and two sophomores led Greencastle-Antrim to the Small School Varsity title at the Frank Keyser Invitational in Boonsboro, Maryland with 56 points. First-year varsity runners Caroline Schemel on the race in 18:10.7 on the three-mile course. Teammate Shelby Stouffer, also a freshman, was 3rd in 18:52.2. In the Small School Boys' race, junior Dalton Monn paced Greencastle-Antrim with his 16:23.8.

A steady, cold rain and mud that got thicker and deeper as the meet went along slowed but didn't stop Grove City and Erie McDowell from claiming team titles.

Despite missing one of its top 5 runners (senior Ben Hoffman was taking the SAT and not available to run), the host Eagles finished with a perfect 15 points for the second consecutive year. Chartiers Valley was second with 95, while Central Tech and Highlands each had 100 points.

Junior Daniel Jaskowak blew through the first mile in 5 minutes flat en route to an easy victory in 16:31. Teammate Ian Brown was second in 17:41, followed by Mercer's Kevin Reno in 17:50. Grove City's Ryan Whiteman (17:59) and Alex Knaby (18:01) rounded out the top five.

Prior to Jaskowak's dominating win in the meet's finale, Sharpsville's Dana Cerroni cruised to first in 19:59 despite running with a cast on her right wrist and forearm. Kelsey Swantek of McDowell was the runner-up in 20:52, while Kate Robb of Wilmington took third in 21:09. Melissa Perseo of McDowell was fourth in 21:10, and Paige Scurpa of Sharpsville closed out the top five in 21:15.

In the team standings, McDowell edge out Sharpsville, 51-53, as both teams placed three runners in the top 10. Chartiers Valley finished with 95.

In the 3 mile varsity boys A race, North East were led by a 5th place finish from Ryan Smathers (15:46) to win the team championship over Barker HS in a close meet 116-121! North East had four in the top 27, which was enough to hold off Barker's five in the top 37. Northeast Bradford finished 4th with 186 points led by a 3rd place finish from Curt Jewett (15:38). PA's top finisher was Barrett Kemp of Oswayo Valley, who finished 2nd with a time of 15:30 for the 3 mile layout. Montrose finished 11th in the Boys A2 race with 303 points led by a 40th place finish from Chris Arnold. Tim Adams of Northern Potter finished 13th in the Boys A3 race in 17:20. Cathedral Prep finished 4th with 137 points in the Boys AA race. Cathedral Prep finished 3rd in the Boys AA Medium School race with 93 points led by a 4th place finish from Sam Prenatt.

In the girls seeded race, Kennedy Weisner earned another gold medal, running 17:50 for 3 miles to win by 15 seconds over 2nd place. Villa Maria Academy finished 2nd with 135 points with five in the top 40. Mercyhurst Prep girls finished 8th in the girls AA race with 196 points. Bailey Kemp of Oswayo Valley ran 19:51 to finish 7th in the girls A3 race, and Northeast Bradford finished 4th with 130 points in the same race. Casey Norton of Troy finished 3rd in the girls A2 race with a time of 19:07, and Montrose finished 7th in the same race with a score of 241 points.

Northeast Invitational

After finishing 3rd at Paul Short less than 24 hours before, Brendan Shearn of North Schuylkill decided to race again and this time he walked out as the champion. The junior ran 15:58 to win by 16 seconds over 2nd place Aaron Valoroso of Towanda. Canton Area boys and Sayre boys had a close encounter at Bloomsburg, with Canton barely squeaking past Sayre 148-151. Canton had three in the top twenty led by Emmett Watson, while Sayre had four in the top 27 led by Matt Romanauski. Canton's fifth runner was 6 places better than Sayre's number five to seal the victory. For the girls, Danville placed three in the top ten led by individual champion Rachel Magliane to score 49 points and win by 23 over Hazleton. Magliane ran 18:43, the same time than Summer Hill of Honesdale ran, but Magliane was awared the victory.

In a constant, cold rain in conditions described as rather treacherous, Homer Center senior Angel Piccirillo won the varsity girls race in 18:28 to continue her 2011 undefeated streak. Her performance was nearly one minute better than the returning North Hills duo of Margo (2nd in 19:23.9) and Shannon Malone (3rd in 19:35.2). Those performances did lead to a team title, placing four in the top twenty to score 56 points to defeat Mount Lebanon by 19. In the varsity B race, Kayla Zboran of Freeport ran 20:28.3 to win the gold medal by a narrow six second margin. Her team would finish in 2nd, 21 points behind champions Beaver, who placed four in the top twenty to earn the win.

For the boys, Mount Lebanon got back on the winning track, placing six in the top 18 with a spread of 59 seconds from their 1st runner to their 9th runner! Their score of 54 points was over 50 points better than 2nd place Chambersburg. Ean Disilvio of Allderdice came up with the gold medal in a tight race. His time of 16:38.6 was under a second better than 2nd place Mike Runco of Central, and almost seven seconds better than Alex Moran of Mount Lebanon. In the B race, Ryan Thompson of Slippery Rock also survived a close finish, winning the race in 16:56.7 to win by under 3 seconds over Ryan McGuire of Trinity. South Fayette placed four in the top sixteen to cruise to the team title with 76 points.
