5/15 - Courtney Regan sets a district record

PIAA District 11 AA/AAA Championship

Two of the state's top female pole vaulters come from D11, and they performed up to expectations. Easton's Courtney Regan set a district record, going 11-09. Liberty's Lauren Birckhead was close behind, clearing 11-06. The two vaults are the best in PA this season. Beth Crocus, Freedom, won the Discus (107-03) and the Javelin (130-09). Other double winners were Gabby Russo in the Hurdles (15.68, 46.65), and Shantell Davis, Allen, in the short sprints, 12.51, 26.18. Brian Powell, Parkland, won the 110 Hurdles in 14.75 and the 300 Hurdles in 39.50. Joel Thomas of Emmaus, ran a very strong 3200, winning by over five seconds in 9:20.23. 

Bethlehem Catholic's Ed Scipio launched two fast district championship times, taking the 100 in 10.92 and the 200 in 22.06. Zack Fronk of Shenandoah Valley won both the 110 and 300 Hurdles in 14.98 and 40.71. Jump specialist Matt Martucci Pius X, took the Long Jump with his 21-08.50 effort just hours after spraining his ankle on his final preliminary Triple Jump. Fortunately for him, his 2nd prelim jump held up for the District title at 44-05. For the girls, Saucon Valley's Casie Williams won the Long Jump (17-07, the Triple Jump (35-01, and the High Jump (5-04). Catasaugua's Erin Recker took both sprints, 12.76 and 26.62.
