The PA guys' 3000 is shaping up to be one of the best in years, as more runners are under 9:00 at this stage of indoor than usual. The standard was raised substantially by East Pennsboro junior Ryan Blood, who held his pace in check until the final 400, when he sailed past Henderson soph sensation Ian Gottesfeld to post a US#3 8:48.25. Gottesfeild was seven seconds back, while Liberty's Dorian McDonald was another two seconds behind. In the 400, four guys went under 50 seconds, led by Tennent's Troy Roberson in 48.87, US#7, who made up a seven meter gap on Abington's Lester Caesar in the last 50 meters. Third place was Upper Dublin's Nehemiah Leary, who took the Long Jump in a leap of 23-04.50, a new US#4. Chichester's Jesse Patterson went 22-06, Norristown's Anthony Graham jumped 21-11, and Neshaminy's Brian Kennely went 21-10.
In the relays, Glen Mills ran a US#3 4x400 in 3:21.33, plus a 1:31.01 4x200. North Penn cruised to a 8:05.18 in the 4x800. Josh Hannum, Strath Haven, went 7:04 in the 60. Before he anchored the North Penn 4x800, Dan Michael ran a 1:58.88 open 800.
In the Sprints, Steve Nichols, Penncrest, ran a US#5 8.17 60 Hurdles. Josh Hannum went 7.04 in the 60 Dash.
In the girls competition, Coatesville's Kelly O'Connell doubled in the mile and 3200, taking the latter in 10:36.38, and getting 2nd in 5:19.45 to Villa Maria's Kim Malcolm, who took the mile in 5:15.41. Malcolm took a commanding lead on the 3rd leg of the 4x800, to lead her squad to a 9:40.82 in the 4x800. Chester took the 4x400 in 4:03.19. Simon Gratz won the 4x200 in 1:44.72. In the field, Cyiceri Ash won the Shot Put with a throw of 41-08.50. Ashley Modie, Milton Hershey, took the Long Jump with a 17-07.00 performance. Meghan O'Neil, Spring-Ford, won the 800 in 2:20.89.
