Highlighting the weekend... At the TSTCA INDOOR MEET #3 at Slippery Rock, the Bradford boys prepped for next week\'s big 4x800 in NY with a win in the 4x400. In the interim, they took 2nd at Akron on Saturday in the 4x800. (Cam Stauffer anchored the Seneca Valley DMR to an 11:10.7 win.) + PHOTO GALLERY POSTED + VIDEO OF MOST SPRINT FINALS. Also at the Fri meet, Diana Filtz, Penn Trafford, won the 3000 and doubled back to take the 800. Scott Van Kooten, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, went sub-9 to win the boys 3000. Shaler swept the 4x800\'s. Alexandra Acker, McDowell took the pole vault. Baldwin\'s girls won the DMR and Seneca Valley, the boys. Another two 5-5 high jumpers join two others at the top of the PA list at Wednesday\'s ALBRIGHT COLLEGE HS INVITE #3. At the DELCO BOYS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS at Glen Mills, Strath Haven\'s Rob Speare won the 3000 and anchored the winning DMR. Glen Mills sophomore Semaj Spencer continued to excel in the long and triple jumps. Teammate Bernard Goodwyn won the 200 by holding off Cardinal O\'Hara\'s Steve Werner by a nose. Werner did win the 55 and the 55 Hurdles, and take 2nd in the 200. At the NYRR THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE RACES in New York, Germantown Friends runners made the trek worth the effort. At the BISON OPEN at Bucknell University, Lara Crofford took over the top spot in the state in the 3000. She also posted a strong mile. Schuylkill Valley\'s Devan Coon moved into PA#2 in two events. At the PENN STATE NATIONAL INVITATIONAL, another near-miss at the sub 4 mile by Shaler grad and Pitt junior Sam Bair III Allentown Central Catholic grad Frances Koons, a Villanova junior, won the mile in an NCAA auto qualifier time. Bair\'s time was provisional. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #8 at Widener, the events that start inside and go outside were quick and Wissahickon Wissahickon won the 4x800 in a meet record time to go with their DMR win. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #8 @ Glen Mills Schools, Boyertown moved to PA#6 in the Distance Medley Relay, with Coatesville improving their PA#8. At the UNIVERSITY OF AKRON HS INVITE #1, Bradford followed up their Friday night 4x400 win at Slippery Rock with a 2nd place in the 4x800. Baldwin was 3rd. Sean Gil of North Allegheny took over PA#2 in the pole vault. In the Semi-Finals of the COLGATE WOMEN\'S GAMES at Pratt Institute in NY, Syeeda Gee of Engineering & Science, won the semi-finals of the 1500. At the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL HS INVITATIONAL #2, Central Cambria\'s Carly Seymour ran a solid PA#2 in the 3000. Coatesville\'s Kaleena Gray improved her PA#2 standing in the shot put. And Conestoga Valley junior Vince McNally became the 6th guy under nine minutes in the 3000. On Sunday at the SPORTSPLEX TRACK SHOWCASE MEET in Landover, MD, West Catholic athletes performed well.

Highlighting the weekend... Mid-week there were two shot put competitions in western PA, the TSTCA MEET at Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday, and the SPARTAN FIELD & TRACK SHOT PUT MEET on Thursday at Hempfield. On Friday at the DVGTCA INDOOR MEET #6, Penncrest\'s Karen Shump improved her US#1 mark in the Shot Put to 49-04.25, a meet record. With the addition of the DMR to the state events this indoor season for the first time, teams are going after it with a vengeance. Eleven squads were under 13 minutes on the flat track at Lehigh, led by a PA#2 by Henderson. Upper Darby\'s Bintou Dibba improved to PA#4 with a long jump. On Friday, at the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #7 at Widener, Wissahickon set a track record in the DMR, while Penn Charter set a meet record idn the 4 x 1 lap. At week #4, the final qualifier before the semis of the COLGATE WOMEN\'S GAMES Engineering & Science\'s Syeeda Gee won two events, the 800 and 1500. Teammate Kasia Taylor was 2nd in the 1500. On Saturday at the NEW BALANCE GAMES in New York on Saturday, Easton\'s Chanelle Price takes 2nd in the girls elite mile at the New Balance Games in NY, to Danielle Tauro\'s 4:46.13, running a 4:50.65! VIDEO LINK AVAILABLE. Also at the meet, Bradford took the 4x800 in a PA#1 time. There were also PA#1\'s from the Swenson\'s girls and O\'Hara boys in the 4x200; and the Chester girls in the sprint medley relay. Methacton also became the 2nd squad under 4 in the 4x400. Early Saturday morning, Clayton NC sr Johnny Dutch broke Deworski Odom\'s (Overbrook HS) 1995 55H USR. At the YALE TRACK CLASSIC in CT, Great Valley\'s boys won the small school DMR. On Saturday, Downingtown West\'s Christen Arnold took over PA#2 in the long jump. Downingtown West ran a PA#3 mark in the 4x400. At the LAVINO RELAYS in New Jersey at the Lawrenceville School, Glen Mills\' Semaj Spencer leapt nearly 47\' in the triple jump; went 21-03.25 as part of the winning long jump relay; contributed to the winning high jump relay, and ran a leg on the winning 4x200. At the POLE VAULT SUMMIT in Reno, Nevada, Abby Schaffer of Easton upped her PA#1 mark with one-inch PR. At the KENT STATE HS OPEN #1, McDowell\'s Brice Myers took over PA#1 in the 55 hurdles. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #7 @ Glen Mills Schools, Boyertown\'s Jason Weller tuned up for his upcoming Millrose Games mile with sub-2 in the 800. Teammate Mark Dennis dipped under 9 again in the 3000. On Sunday at the MARIETTA COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL MEET #2 in Marietta, OH, Scott VanKooten, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, posted a PA#2 in the 3200.

Highlighting the weekend are a bunch of new PA #1 performances. Karen Shump of Penncrest PRed (indoor or out) with a US#1 shot put of 48-10.75 on Friday night. At the same meet, Ryann Krais, Methacton, leapt 19-00.50 in the long jump, easily top five in the US. In western PA, there were two new PA#1\'s where 2nd place is now way back. In the 3200, FL Finalist Carly Seymour of Central Cambria traveled the 200 meter tunnel-enhanced Slippery Rock University track in just over 5:33 pace. And Denes Veres of Riverside took over the state shot put lead by well over a foot nearing 59\'. In Maryland at the Montgomery County meet in Landover, Boyertown\'s Jason Weller ran 4:17.47 in the mile and came back with a 9:17.58 3200. Both were 2nd place finishes. On Saturday, Joe Berry, Hatboro-Horsham, cleared a PR 15-02 in the pole vault. Earlier in the week, there were new PA #1\'s by the Penn Wood girls\' 4x200 and by Archbishop Carroll\'s Amanda Bascelli in the 3000. At Kutztown, Joe Kovacs of Bethlehem Catholic, PRed, improved his season best by almost two feet, and moved into PA#2 with a huge throw. More... On Wednesday, the TSTCA held two single event meets... the POLE VAULT COMPETITION at Butler HS and the TRIPLE JUMP COMPETITION at Robert Morris University. Pine Richland\'s Zach Merverden is now PA#2. On Thursday at the STATE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL, Pole vaulter Andrew Campalongo PRed and moved into PA#3. State College\'s Edel Crowe won the distance double. On Friday, at the DVGTCA INDOOR MEET #4 @ Kutztown University, Council Rock North moved into the PA#2 spot with a winning sub 12:45 DMR. On Friday at the COLGATE WOMEN\'S GAMES HS WK #2, Engineering & Science showed they will have a strong team for indoor states. Also on Friday, at the EMREY/ESU WARRIOR CLASSIC @ East Stroudsburg University, Harrisburg smoked a PA#1 4x400. At the CITIBANK HISPANIC GAMES at the New York Armory, Cheltenham senior Brandon Bing introduced himself to the 2007 national scene by taking two races, the 55 and 200 (US#1). Bing beat some great competition, including Simon Gratz junior Khaliff Featherstone, 5th in the 200. Featherstone took second in the finals of the 400, the fourth fastest time on the day. At Saturday\'s TSTCA INDOOR MEET #1@ the University of Pittsburgh, the throws were, as always, out there. There is a new #1 in the state in the shot put, as Hempfield senior Westin Banks unleashed a throw over 57\'. At the KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL, Chanelle Price of Easton sent more shockwaves through the state and beyond following her 12/29 Burdette Classic performance. She became the first PA girl to go under five this season. Second in the race was Central Cambria junior Carly Seymour. She most likely would have been closer to Price, but it was Seymour\'s second race of the day. She won the meet\'s opening event, the 3000, in one of the top times in the state. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, Glen Mill\'s Bernard Goodwyn ripped the 400. Jay Pittenger continued his strong high jumps, In the 60 hurdles, Archbishop Ryan\'s Kashif Thompson posted a PA#1 tie. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, there were some pretty impressive meet records rewritten. The DMR mark of 10:41.1 was set in 1987 by Penncrest. Well, Wissahickon and West Chester Henderson both crushed it. Penn Charter\'s Dareem David broke the 2003 meet record of 6.9 by Conwell-Egan\'s Steve Slaton in the 60 dash. Chestnut Hill Academy\'s Wayne Crawford neared his season best in the shot put. At the LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE INDOOR MEET #1, two girls cleared 5-04. Chambersburg junior MJ Davis won the 55 dash and triple jump. Indian Valley junior Brooke Mathews won the 55 and 200 dashes. On 1/8 at the CHESTER COUNTY INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS at Ursinus College, Kaleena Gray of Coatesville continued her strong season, throwing over 41\' to win the shot put. On 1/9 at the DELCO GIRLS INDOOR CHAMPS @ Haverford College, junior Karen Shump of Penncrest showed that her retirement from softball continues to pay dividends as she flirts with beating her outdoor shot put PR, indoors. At her home championships, she threw over 47 for the third time this season. Penn Wood\'s girls posted the best 4x200 in the state so far, holding off three other teams by less than two seconds as well.
