The indoor state champ and the outdoor state champ will go head-to-head this winter in what should be a very strong year in the girls' triple jump in Pennsylvania.

Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker won her third indoor state crown last winter (she won the long jump as a freshman and sophomore) taking the triple jump with a leap of 40-4.5, which is still her career best. The Oklahoma signee is one of the state's most versatile athletes and she'll be a contender in three different events in the state, but the triple jump may be her best.

Her best challenge will come from the reigning outdoor state champ in the event from this fall. Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren leapt 39-9.75 to win the state title in the spring. She took third at indoor states, not too far behind Langley-Walker. Warren also went a career-best 40-4 at Ocean Breeze earlier in the season.

Those two are the only returning medalists from last season, but a lot of talent still comes back looking to make a run for the top spot. Most notably of the best of the rest is Stroudsburg's Ayanna Burrell. Burrell, a senior, was the only girl in the state to jump past 40 feet during the outdoor season in the spring. She took tenth at indoor states, but look for Burrell to be a serious factor this winter (last winter was her first season competing indoors).

The other two returners from the state meet from last year includes Milton Hershey's Rebecca Tarnve and Penn Cambria's Lauren Michina. Tarnve jumped a best of 37-4.25 last winter. Look for the senior to be in the mix for a medal. Michina jumped 36-7 last indoors, but really turned it on outdoors, going 38-0.5 in the spring. She was sixth at states in AA. Athens Area's Breana Gambrell won the AA state title last spring. While she's more of a long jump specialist, if she opts to compete in the triple jump indoors, she's an instant title contender.

Other triple jumpers to watch for in the state include State College's Taylor Givens, Ridley's Meghan Lynch, Forest Hills' Zoe Roush, Lower Dauphin's Karina Long, and Palmyra's Camryn Simpson. While the girls at the top were top performers last year, there's a lot of room for some breakthrough contenders to make their way to the medal stand in PA.
