One of the more wide open events in the state this season figures to be the girls' high jump. Four girls return having cleared 5-6 last winter and even more cleared that heighth outdoors. Winning a state title will come down to showing up on the right day.

Last year, CB South's Valerie Przekop, one of the state's more clutch performers we've seen in recent memory took home the second of her three career state golds (she won twice outdoors in AAA). Both Lydia Bottelier of Palisades and Kate Willshaw of Easton Area cleared the winning height---5-6---but Przekop took the win on jumps.

Bottelier may be the one to beat this winter. Last year, she saw a huge improvement that culminated with an outdoor state crown in AA. She cleared a best of 5-8 last spring. Willshaw just missed a medal at outdoor states, but has a lot of talent and should be in the mix for the win, as well.

Twin Valley's Kayla Gillen was fourth at indoor states last year, and she followed that up with a fourth place finish in the state outdoors, too. Gillen cleared a best of 5-6 last season and will look for more of that this indoor campaign.

Cheltenham's Brianna Smith emerged onto the scene as a freshman last season. Her impact was felt right away. She took seventh at indoor states, and then took fifth at outdoor states in AAA. At outdoor nationals, she capped off her freshman season with a PR of 5-7. Look for Smith to continue progressing into her sophomore season.

Trinity Bitting-Ellis of Warwick is another returning medalist from last winter. She cleared 5-4 at states to place fifth at Penn State. Then she went 5-5 at outdoor states to take fifth in AAA. Bitting-Ellis is another clutch performer that is worth watching for this season. California Area's Annalise Gillespie, Lakeview's Cecily Greggs, Pottsgrove's Miazziah Rose, and Central Dauphin's Taye Dairo also enter this season having cleared 5-4 last indoor season.

Trinity's Jamie Handra, Wyoming Area's Shelby Stackhouse, and North East's Carlye Zahner also qualified for states last season and will be back this winter. Others to watch include Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker (a horizontal jumps and hurdles specialist, who cleared 5-6 last spring), Bishop McDevitt's Blair Knuckle (cleared 5-5 in the spring), and Council Rock South's Kristi Boyd (cleared 5-5 in the spring)
