Highlighting the weekend are a bunch of new PA #1 performances. Karen Shump of Penncrest PRed (indoor or out) with a US#1 shot put of 48-10.75 on Friday night. At the same meet, Ryann Krais, Methacton, leapt 19-00.50 in the long jump, easily top five in the US. In western PA, there were two new PA#1\'s where 2nd place is now way back. In the 3200, FL Finalist Carly Seymour of Central Cambria traveled the 200 meter tunnel-enhanced Slippery Rock University track in just over 5:33 pace. And Denes Veres of Riverside took over the state shot put lead by well over a foot nearing 59\'. In Maryland at the Montgomery County meet in Landover, Boyertown\'s Jason Weller ran 4:17.47 in the mile and came back with a 9:17.58 3200. Both were 2nd place finishes. On Saturday, Joe Berry, Hatboro-Horsham, cleared a PR 15-02 in the pole vault. Earlier in the week, there were new PA #1\'s by the Penn Wood girls\' 4x200 and by Archbishop Carroll\'s Amanda Bascelli in the 3000. At Kutztown, Joe Kovacs of Bethlehem Catholic, PRed, improved his season best by almost two feet, and moved into PA#2 with a huge throw. More... On Wednesday, the TSTCA held two single event meets... the POLE VAULT COMPETITION at Butler HS and the TRIPLE JUMP COMPETITION at Robert Morris University. Pine Richland\'s Zach Merverden is now PA#2. On Thursday at the STATE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL, Pole vaulter Andrew Campalongo PRed and moved into PA#3. State College\'s Edel Crowe won the distance double. On Friday, at the DVGTCA INDOOR MEET #4 @ Kutztown University, Council Rock North moved into the PA#2 spot with a winning sub 12:45 DMR. On Friday at the COLGATE WOMEN\'S GAMES HS WK #2, Engineering & Science showed they will have a strong team for indoor states. Also on Friday, at the EMREY/ESU WARRIOR CLASSIC @ East Stroudsburg University, Harrisburg smoked a PA#1 4x400. At the CITIBANK HISPANIC GAMES at the New York Armory, Cheltenham senior Brandon Bing introduced himself to the 2007 national scene by taking two races, the 55 and 200 (US#1). Bing beat some great competition, including Simon Gratz junior Khaliff Featherstone, 5th in the 200. Featherstone took second in the finals of the 400, the fourth fastest time on the day. At Saturday\'s TSTCA INDOOR MEET #1@ the University of Pittsburgh, the throws were, as always, out there. There is a new #1 in the state in the shot put, as Hempfield senior Westin Banks unleashed a throw over 57\'. At the KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL, Chanelle Price of Easton sent more shockwaves through the state and beyond following her 12/29 Burdette Classic performance. She became the first PA girl to go under five this season. Second in the race was Central Cambria junior Carly Seymour. She most likely would have been closer to Price, but it was Seymour\'s second race of the day. She won the meet\'s opening event, the 3000, in one of the top times in the state. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, Glen Mill\'s Bernard Goodwyn ripped the 400. Jay Pittenger continued his strong high jumps, In the 60 hurdles, Archbishop Ryan\'s Kashif Thompson posted a PA#1 tie. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #5 @ Haverford College, there were some pretty impressive meet records rewritten. The DMR mark of 10:41.1 was set in 1987 by Penncrest. Well, Wissahickon and West Chester Henderson both crushed it. Penn Charter\'s Dareem David broke the 2003 meet record of 6.9 by Conwell-Egan\'s Steve Slaton in the 60 dash. Chestnut Hill Academy\'s Wayne Crawford neared his season best in the shot put. At the LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE INDOOR MEET #1, two girls cleared 5-04. Chambersburg junior MJ Davis won the 55 dash and triple jump. Indian Valley junior Brooke Mathews won the 55 and 200 dashes. On 1/8 at the CHESTER COUNTY INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS at Ursinus College, Kaleena Gray of Coatesville continued her strong season, throwing over 41\' to win the shot put. On 1/9 at the DELCO GIRLS INDOOR CHAMPS @ Haverford College, junior Karen Shump of Penncrest showed that her retirement from softball continues to pay dividends as she flirts with beating her outdoor shot put PR, indoors. At her home championships, she threw over 47 for the third time this season. Penn Wood\'s girls posted the best 4x200 in the state so far, holding off three other teams by less than two seconds as well.
