Athletics to add track and field teams in 2014-15

Penn State Harrisburg announced today that it will add an intercollegiate men’s and women’s track and field program. The teams will begin competing in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in 2014-15 during the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Men’s and women’s track and field, the most recent additions to the athletic program since golf and men’s and women’s tennis were added in 2006, will bring the number of varsity sports offered at the college to 16.

The new teams will use a local track and field facility initially, with plans underway for an on-campus track and field complex in the future.

A head coach will be hired and recruitment for the teams will begin this fall. The coach will head six teams – men’s and women’s teams in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field.

“We have seen a growing interest in the sport of track and field from our current students and from prospective students who are considering attending Penn State Harrisburg," said Rahsaan Carlton, director of athletics. “This is a great opportunity to broaden the intercollegiate opportunities we offer to students, and it is exciting to give them yet another way to develop their passion and discover their potential."
