What's up?

/// The New Jersey Cross Country season has returned! A magical time for distance runners, no one quite understands the amazing nature of cross until they experience it for themselves. The team focus, fall weather, large races, not going in a circle, the grass/dirt/mud/rain/snow/sun. There are a few early invitationals for teams to choose from as we continue our training for State's season, but invitationals aren't the only challenges on the plate right now. DUAL MEETS are here in full force as many teams hope to win their divisions.

/// Speaking of dual meets, CBA has successfully opened up their duals season by extending their National Record streak of dual meet victories to a whopping 323 wins! Article linked to the picture of CBA after their Eastern States victory last year at Van Courtland Park (Photo by Kyle Brazeil). Located here.

/// We have video of an awesome motivation and advice session from the great Marcus O'Sullivan if you missed that awesome post. Located here.

At the end of the day, no matter the race results, I think everyone is just happy XC is back.

ATHLETES OTW

Brennan Sharkey  (Sr) of West Morris Central takes the week 1 girls athlete of the week honors. A HUGE personal best at the Randolph Invitational under the lights; with her first place finishing time of 18:01 She took two minutes off of her best 2012 XC time. The last two times she raced at that same meet were 21:31 (2012) and 22:28 (2011). Congratulations Brennan!

Justin Naselli (Sr.) of Mendham takes the week 1 boys athlete of the week honors. This was a pretty decent early season run for Justin. He personal best with the winning time of 15:46.95. His last personal best in the 5K came last October at the NJAC Championships where he ran a 15:55.

This is a feature that will celebrate the awesome photographers that devote their time and talents to post countless photos each week. (Which if you didn't know you can tag your MileSplit profile in so they are linked, must claim your profile first).

Dave Folsom wins our photo and photographer of the week honors. He posted a full 11 page album on the Petty Fun Run meet page. This was my pick for the best photo. If you see photos you would like to nominate each week let me know in the discussion board, on twitter or facebook, or my email at rkellert@milesplit.com! Remember to include a link to the photo.
