The State College boys 800 meter runners showed what they are capable behind their superstar Will Cather. The trio of Kyle Adams (1:57.0), Mason Post (1:57.2), and Chris Golembeski (1:57.9) all cracked the 1:58 mark in a 1-23 finish in the 800 meter run. While they were flexing their 800 meter muscle, Will Cather was winning the mile in 4:20.5 for PA#4 honors. Tyrone Gibson of Bishop McDevitt ran 22.9 to win the 200 meter dash. Griffin Molino of South Williamsport ran 8:58.3 to win the 3000 meter run. Altoona ran a PA#3 10:29.1 to win the distance medley relay and a PA#5 1:31.2 to win the 4x200 meter relay. In the field, Kellin Valentine of State College jumped 22-3 to win the long jump while his teammate Bryce Williams jumped 44-6.75 to win the triple jump.

For the girls, Sierra Brabham-Lawrence of Harrisburg won the 60 meter hurdles (PA#2 8.4) and the 200 meter dash (25.9). Mady Clahane of Cumberland Valley won the 800 meter run in a PA#3 2:14.2 and ran 5:17.6 to win the mile. Victoria Crawford of State College ran a PA#6 58.6 to win the 400 meter dash. Harrisburg ran 1:47 to win the 4x200 meter relay. In the field events, Abby Wagner of Altoona jumped 36-3 to win the triple jump. Erika Voyzey of Tyrone Area cleared 5-4 to win the high jump. Hannah Mulhern of Altoona cleared 11-9 to win the pole vault.

DVGTCA Meet of Champions

Uchechi Onuoha of Pennsbury was the lone winner to set a new state leading performance on the night, winning the triple jump with a US#20 38-4.25! Even though Onuoha was the only state leader at the DVGTCA curtain closer, many other competitors put themselves in a good position for next week’s state championships.

Megan McCloskey of Germantown Academy won another major high jump competition, clearing 5-7 to win the gold. Ariana Przybylowski of Pennridge won the long jump with a PA#5 mark of 18-3.75. Macey Tanseco of Perkiomen Valley threw 40-10.50 to win the triple jump.

On the track, Jamila Branch of Central Bucks West joined the crowd of 400 meter state contenders, taking home the race in a PA#5 58.77 and beating out joint state leader Brooklynn Broadwater of Springside Chestnut Hill. Dasia Pressley of Neshaminy ran a PA#3 25.16 to win the 200 meter dash. Katelyn Jackson of Cheltenham was .01 seconds better than Taylor Chapman of Pennridge for the top spot 7.66 to 7.67. Jackson’s teammate Ciara Leonard ran 8.68 to win the 60 meter hurdles. Maddie Villalba of Central Bucks West ran a PA#6 2:15.79 to win the 800 meter run. In the relays, Upper Darby surged to the win in the 4x200 meter relay with a PA#4 1:43.72, the fastest time on a flat track this season. Great Valley ran 12:25.07 to win the distance medley relay.

The annual Meet of Champions has arrived, as teams and athletes search for that final boost of momentum before next week’s state championships or are simply trying to punch a ticket to the big meet!

One of the marquee matchups of the night will be in the 60 meter hurdles, where everyone will see 55 meter hurdle state leader Ciara Leonard square off against former PA#1 for 60 meter hurdles, Markeeta Thomas of Paul Robeson. In the dash, Katelyn Jackson of Cheltenham will look to continue her dominance in the event, but she will be challenged by Taylor Chapman of Pennridge and Jameela Muhammad of Paul Robeson. Chapman, Muhammad, Thomas will all join Dasia Pressley of Neshaminy and Chanel Brissett of Cheltenham in the 200 meter dash. The 400 meter dash will feature Carnival winner and joint state leader Brooklynn Broadwater of Springside Chestnut Hill facing Nicole Burke of Cheltenham.

In the 800 meter run, 1000 meter state leader Maddie Villalba of Central Bucks West and Springside Chestnut Hill’s Terri Turner will go head to head. Kaelyn Heinicke of Council Rock North will also be in the mix, having won three DVGTCA 800 meter events this season. Olivia Sargent of Pennsbury and Kaitlin Poiesz of Central Bucks South will meet in the mile, while Sargent’s teammate Hannah Molloy and Elizabeth Morris of Central Bucks East will go head to head in the 3000 meter run.

In the field events, Liz Reid of Lansdale Catholic will look to build off of her lifetime best long jump performance at the PCL Championships over the weekend (17-8.5) and face the likes of state leader Holly Sullivan of Owen J Roberts and Ariana Przybylowski of Pennridge. Triple jump title contenders Alexandra Heuer of Boyertown and Uchechi Onuoha of Pennsbury will get another look at one another before states next week. In the high jump, Claudine Andre of Upper Darby will look to avenge last week’s defeat to Carnival record holder Megan McCloskey of Germantown Academy. Anecia Alexaki of Upper Merion will look to hold off Dara Liss of Cheltenham for the pole vault crown. In the shot put, Macey Tanseco of Perkiomen Valley and Justine Morgan of Upper Dublin will meet once again for the top spot.

In the relays, Cardinal O’Hara, Great Valley, North Penn and Strath Haven will feature in both the 4x800 and distance medley relays. They will be joined in the 4x8 by Central Bucks West, while Central Bucks South will join the party in the DMR. In the sprint relays, Paul Robeson and Overbrook renew their rivalry in the 4x200 meter relay, but Upper Darby will have something to say about who wins. Robeson will also contest the 4x400 meter relay against Springside Chestnut Hill, Strath Haven and Neumann Goretti!

TFCAofGP 49th Meet of Champions

The boys meet of champions produced 2 new state leaders and multiple performances that got the crowd fired up for next week’s state championships!

The two state leaders were both from the Inter-Ac League, as Episcopal Academy’s Sam Pope set a personal best by almost FOUR FEET with a US#16 47-8 win in the triple jump! The other state leader belonged to James Biggs-Frazier in the 60 meter dash. The senior dipped under 7 seconds for the first time in his career with a time of 6.93!

Jeffrey Wiseman of Council Rock South had another 800 meter dual with John Lewis of Cheltenham in his final tune up before next week’s highly anticipated 800 meter state final. Wiseman got the best of Lewis once again with a meet record of 1:54.71. Lewis ran 1:55.49 for 2^nd. Meanwhile, Kyle Francis of Bensalem was tuning up for the state meet by edging out Jaxson Hoey of Malvern Prep and Ross Wilson of Council Rock North. Francis ran 4:19.03 to win the race and earn PA#2 honors. Wilson would rebound and edge out Scott Mason of Penn Charter in the 3000 meter run with a winning time of 8:56.00.

In other action, Cardinal O’Hara ran a big 10:22.00 to win the distance medley relay, which is good for PA#2 and US#8 this season! Lasalle made it a Catholic League distance relay sweep, taking home the 4x800 meter relay in a PA#5 8:05.44. In the other field events, the trio of Tra-C Davis of Coatesville, Chris Stone of Springfield Montco and Randall Johnson of Central Bucks South all cleared 6-7. Stone also added a win in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-3.25. Walt Pegues of Central jumped 22-1.25 to win the long jump and his teammate Sam Reid threw 54-1.25 to win the shot put.

Another brilliant double by Brianna Schwartz and US-ranking performances from Isaiah Brooks and Matthew Bernadowski highlighted the Tri-State Coaches indoor championships.

Already in the US top 5 in both the 800- and 1,600-meter/mile runs, Shaler Area’s Schwartz went wire to wire twice, covering the mile in 4 minutes, 48.15 seconds and then the 800 in 2:11.57.

In a meeting of two of the top three hurdlers in the state, Bernadowski of Elizabeth Forward remained on top in Pennsylvania and racked up a top 10 US clocking in the process. His new 60-meter best of 7.98 seconds is US#5, while Mitch Valko of South Fayette climbed to PA#2 in the prelims at 8.04 and then claimed the runner-up spot in the final in 8.05.

Brooks, a junior at Woodland Hills, registered a PR and more in winning the long jump. His leap of 23 feet, 9.25 inches rocketed to PA#1 and US#5 and topped his outdoor best of 23-8 from last spring. Daniel Commey of McDowell claimed second with a final-round 22-5.25 that is worth PA#8.

Fox Chapel Area’s Colin Martin backed up his rankings in the metric two-mile runs, going wire to wire in the 3,000 for an 8:49.64. North Allegheny’s Matt McGoey was next in a PA#8 8:54.58, while Will Loevner of Winchester Thurston improved to PA#10 8:55.95.

Madeleine Davison of North Allegheny controlled the pace and the field in the girls’ 3,000 run, powering away to a PA#3 10:01.94 over Mary Malone of North Hills and her PA#5 10:07.56. Jillian Hunsberger of Mt. Lebanon is now PA#10 after a 10:24.49.

Hempfield Area teammates Bridget Guy and Maddie Holmberg were winners, with Guy matching her state-leading effort of 12-3 in the pole vault. Holmberg was the first to the line in the 60 hurdles, running 8.98 to Guy’s PA#9 9.05.

Hempfield also won the 4x200 in 1:45.18 and the 4x400 in 4:08.81, while Villa Maria won the 4x800 in 10:04.41 and Mt. Lebanon claimed the DMR in 12:42.46.

Another top performance was turned in by Shaler Area’s Tori Soeder, who bounded out to 36-5 for the triple jump win and a PA#8 mark. One of four over 42 feet this season, Slippery Rock Area’s Emily Campbell was the shot put winner at 40-4.5.

On the boys’ side, Altoona Area’s Dreux Stamford won a pair of dashes, covering 60 meters in 7.05 and 200 in 22.65. West Allegheny’s Will Page picked up a win and a second, claiming the 400 in 50.94 and running 22.85 in the 200.

Altoona won three of the relays and added a second, going 1:32.83 in the 4x200, 8:15.28 in the 4x800 and 11:05.37 in the DMR. Penn Hills won the 4x400 in 3:30.21.

Slippery Rock’s Shane Kirkwood went 6-3 to win the high jump, while four others also cleared 6-1. Kane Area’s Nick Anderson and North Allegheny’s Bobby Upton matched 14-3.25 clearances in the pole vault, with Anderson winning on misses and Upton now PA#6. Zachary Cartwright of Franklin Area also cleared 13-9.

De’Lorian Day of Hempfield Area moved to PA#5 with his 45-8 victory in the triple jump, while Lawson Monta of Greensburg Salem improved his PA#4 in the shot by pulling out the victory in the final round with a 58-3.5 heave and James Smith of Upper St. Clair won the mile in 4:24.33.

Lauren Costa of West Allegheny won the 200 in 25.98, while teammate Alexis O’Shea showed some speed in dropping down in distance to win the 400 in 59.58. Other winners included Washington’s Alyssa Wise, with her PA#8 7.77 claiming the 60 over the 7.84s by Jasmine Jones of Hempfield and Costa, and Nicole Florio of Elk County Catholic leaping 5-3 to win the high jump over a group of four at 5-1.
