PTXC Performers of the Week: Week 5

Athletes

Boys

We have a new state leader in PA on the boys side and his name is Kevin James. The Cardinal O’Hara senior had just missed winning gold in his first two invitational races at Briarwood and PIAA Foundation. But the senior made the 3rd time the charm, going down to Washington, D.C. to check out the new DCXC Invitational, a class invitational. In the senior race, James was victorious with a new personal best and a state leading time of 15:11. His previous best was 15:14 at Great American last season.

Girls

Mady Clahane of Cumberland Valley was back to her winning ways this weekend. The district 3 champion announced her return to state title contention after a successful Carlisle Invitational title defense. Although it was not as fast as her 17:28 from last season’s victory, her 17:54 win this season is good for PA#2 and is the 2nd sub 18 minute performance in the state this season. It was Clahane’s first victory and she still has never finished outside of the top five in ANY PA invitational her 2+ year career!

Teams

Boys

In the past two weeks, York Suburban has come on strong and have made themselves serious contenders for the Class AA state championship title. After winning the Blue race at Foundation last week over an in form Grove City, the District 3 squad entered the big Challenge race at Carlisle on Saturday and finished as the top PA team in the race. York Suburban finished 2nd behind a dominant St Anthony’s (NY) team, but defeated Downingtown West, West Chester Henderson, and Lasalle with a 51 second spread 1-5 and a 59 second spread 1-6.

Girls

With the current form of Cardinal O’Hara and Central Cambria, sometimes it’s tough to recognize one over the other because they continue to impress week in and week out. They both ran the same course in separate races on Saturday at Carlisle, with Central Cambria winning the Champions race with 80 points in a field of 55 full teams. Central Cambria had four in the top 15 and a 1-5 spread of 69 seconds, with their top four finishing 9 seconds apart! With their 3rd win of the season, the Red Devils of Central Cambria get the nod this time around.

Congratulations to our winners!
