A couple of PA track history questions to get you thinking (now with answers)...

From time to time we get historical questions that are not as simple as just checking the meet archives or sending a well-placed email or two. And during the past month, we have received two questions that fit in that category.  It didn't take long for the answers...  


Question #1: What is the fastest prep girls' 4x1600 in PA history? The fastest this season is 21:03 by Archbishop Prendergast on June 3rd at the Eastern States Championships at Iona Prep in New York.

Answer: State College H.S. ran 20:52.9c in 1981 for the 4xMile. (That's 4x1600m converted to 4xMile) At 1.8 seconds per runner,the 4x1600m time would be 20:45.7.


Question #2: When was the last time a PA boys team won the indoor and outdoor state titles in the same year?

Answer: Wissahickon Boys, 1982 - Indoors and Outdoors AND Glen Mills boys on the Indoor title and Outdoor title concurrently in 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1999 - Pennsbury boys, 2003

 

Question #3: How many other schools have won the AAA team titles on both the girls and boys side? (can be different years).

Answer: Pennwood's boys ('85 and '98) and girls (not sure of the year) both have won AAA Championships. Also, Strath Haven's boys '94 and girls '06 have won AAA Championships
