Independent State Champs Recap: GFS wins girls title 69-72-73! Bauer, Dahl, GFS boys dominate!

Girls

On Monday, Notre Dame defeated Germantown Academy by a single point to win the Inter-Ac title. On Ocotber 20, Friends Central defeated Germantown Friends at the Friends League meet. On Saturday, Germantown Friends, Notre Dame, and Germantown Academy needed every point they could get to win the state title.

Germantown Academy had a 2-3 finish from Abbe Goldstein and Maggie Hallahan, but it was only good enough to secure 3rd place and 73 points. Notre Dame had a 96 second spread with four top 15 finishers, but that only got them 2nd place with 72 points. Germantown Friends emerged victorious thanks to a strong top three performance to score 69 points and survive the Inter-Ac duo.

The individual race looked like a head to head battle between Goldstein and Jerrica Bauer of George School heading into the woods. By the time they came out, Bauer was all alone and came away with her 3rd win this month in 18:40 to win by 14 seconds.

Boys

Both the team title race and the individual race had very little drama, as Germantown Friends showed their superiority to become state champions. Nick Dahl led the way for the winners, earning the individual gold medal in 16:05 to win by 33 seconds over Gabriel Allgayer of Mercersburg Academy. Germantown Friends had three of the top 8 finishers and scored 41 points to win by 67 over The Haverford School. 3rd place went to Episcopal Academy with 117 points.
